00:10 >> I am so excited for the fans to learn that Maya is a badass character.
00:17 >> Kingpin is back for sure.
00:20 >> This is bingeable from day one.
00:22 It really grabs you.
00:24 And we wanted the audience to be who wanted to do it,
00:26 to binge right through it start to finish.
00:28 [MUSIC]
00:34 >> I'm excited for them to see Alaqua Cox in action.
00:37 She has mad screen presence and I'm really excited for
00:39 people to see her performance.
00:41 >> I'm so excited for people to meet her.
00:45 >> Alaqua Cox, Alaqua Cox, and Alaqua Cox.
00:49 >> Alaqua has a special place in my heart.
00:52 We're so happy for her and proud of her and that she's helming her own show.
00:57 >> She's so magnetic on screen.
01:00 You wanna know more about who she is.
01:02 She's so mysterious, dangerous, and inviting, and all these amazing things.
01:06 >> Alaqua tried and tried and tried and knocked it out of the park.
01:09 >> She just jumped right into it.
01:11 She's like an old pro and I'm so proud of her.
01:13 >> You know, they wrote this amazing kind of journey for Alaqua's character.
01:17 And my character doesn't mean to disrupt it, but kind of does.
01:22 >> I see everything that you are.
01:24 [MUSIC]
01:27 >> I always have.
01:30 >> Maya or Fisk?
01:31 >> Do you think people should be more intimidated by?
01:33 >> That's a very good question.
01:35 >> We love antiheroes.
01:36 >> You'll have to find out.
01:37 >> [LAUGH]
01:38 >> Maya, 100%.
01:40 >> Maya.
01:42 >> People should absolutely be more intimidated by Maya Lopez.
01:45 I mean, come on, she's an indigenous woman.
01:47 She's somebody who doesn't take any BS.
01:50 >> You know, she has two disabilities.
01:51 She is deaf and an amputee, but she can still be a badass.
01:54 That means if I'm a badass, then anybody can be a badass, am I right?
01:57 >> [APPLAUSE]
02:00 >> It's a really incredible and
02:01 kick-ass series.
02:02 >> We didn't set out to make a TVMA show.
02:05 We set out to make a show about Maya Lopez, who comes from a violent
02:10 background, has challenges in her past that kind of led her in a certain
02:16 direction, and to really honor what that character went through,
02:20 we ended up having to make a show that was TVMA.
02:23 >> [APPLAUSE]
02:28 >> This was about exploring more of her
02:31 life and more of Maya's back story, and she goes home to Oklahoma in this.
02:36 >> Family, and more specifically, the definition of family is something we
02:40 explore deeply in the series, and the way they relate to each other,
02:43 the way their dynamics and everything are going to be the crux of our entire series.
02:47 >> Through the series, we get to see Maya Lopez come back into her community.
02:52 It's a really dark and gritty family drama.
02:55 >> Once you're telling a story about Maya Lopez or a character from that era of
02:58 the comics, you can really do so many new things that you can't do in other shows,
03:01 like be darker and grittier and more real and grounded.
03:04 So that was all just exciting for us.
03:06 >> [APPLAUSE]
03:10 >> Having the chance to tell a story about
03:12 Marvel's first Native American character, Mustang Hero, that was reason enough.
03:17 I think just having the chance to be involved with this project and craft a world,
03:23 craft a story, craft a series with authenticity in mind, it's an absolute dream come true.
03:28 >> It's really cool to be able to make Native content for someone like my son to watch.
03:33 >> My God, the best part of making Echo was the fact that I got to do it with so
03:37 many indigenous collaborators in front of the camera, behind the camera, writers,
03:41 producers, and getting to tell these stories from our communities.
03:45 One of this story of the Choctaw Nation has been the best part of this whole
03:48 experience.
03:49 >> This is completely unique.
03:51 It's totally different from anything else we've ever done.
03:53 It was so exciting to have fantastic roles for
03:56 all of these incredibly talented actors that you're gonna see here.
03:58 Some of them I've been fans of for a long, long time.
04:01 >> I'm really excited for people to see this.
04:03 >> Long time coming.
