Mike Lovell's Fatal Crash @ Weymouth Bay 2012 (Aftermath)

Following a powerboat accident in Weymouth Bay, Mike Lovell from Southampton, Hampshire, and his navigator Dan Whapples both sustained serious injuries and were airlifted to Southampton General Hospital. Overnight Mike Lovell succumbed to his injuries.

The accident happened at about 14h30 on Sunday, 16 September 2012, during a round of the 2012 British Powerboat National Championship held on the Weymouth Bay boat course. Mike Lovell was thrown out along with Dan Whapples when his Panther 250 "Peters & May Racing" boat #40 went out of control and barrel-rolled in the wash, during the P1 SuperStock Class race.

An accomplished race engineer, Mike Lovell, 27, worked for Martin Braybrook's Brookspeed International Motorsport Team since 2005.
