00:00 My name is Glenda Ravello and I'm the production designer for Frasier.
00:04 When I started, when I was like, you know, a very young assistant art director,
00:10 all I wanted to do was work for Roy Christopher, who was the production designer for Frasier.
00:15 When I was called to do this show, or at least to interview for it,
00:19 I couldn't have been more excited and shocked.
00:23 And anyway, here I am.
00:29 So when you come in, you'll see that it's a mix of furniture.
00:33 You'll see very contemporary pieces, and that's not unlike the original Frasier.
00:39 I think when you first walked into that apartment, it was postmodern,
00:43 and now this is what is current for us, you know, 20-something years later.
00:48 I did get inspired by the original apartment, for sure.
00:52 He had such exquisite taste in Seattle, but we're in a very old city, Boston versus Seattle.
00:58 And so I think the architecture will reflect that.
01:02 Not bad, eh?
01:04 You're renting the apartment next to mine?
01:06 Renting? No, well, I bought the whole building.
01:09 What? How?
01:13 With money, Frederick, lots and lots of money.
01:15 He's had tremendous success professionally, and we wanted it to reflect his style.
01:21 And the man is very sophisticated.
01:24 I really wanted the writers to be able to reference significant designers,
01:29 contemporary ones and pieces that are more vintage.
01:33 I found this wallpaper inspiring, and this is maybe the first purchase we made for the show
01:39 because this is made by a quarter Taleo in Kansas City,
01:43 and each one of these panels is hand-painted.
01:47 Lilith, in her episode, she makes a reference to this.
01:50 Is that Rorschach wallpaper?
01:52 Yes. What do you see?
01:54 I see someone trying too hard.
01:56 It's all things that we wanted the writers to be able to reference.
02:03 These two lamps we also ordered very early.
02:07 They're made by an artist named Ryan Minele, and they're in Morse code,
02:13 and one says "Fraser" and the other one says "Kelsey."
02:17 We found pieces that we really loved the style and the design.
02:22 These pillows were actually named pillows.
02:25 They're Christian Lacroix.
02:28 Don't sit there!
02:30 Those are Christian Lacroix pillows.
02:33 So we can't sit on the couch?
02:35 Not in jeans.
02:37 So many things are tactile, and our actors really do come and touch things,
02:44 and I think a lot of these pieces, like Amy Feldman, the decorator,
02:48 she also had them in mind, down to his glasses.
02:52 They're a really beautiful, simple shape, but they have some detail on them,
02:57 so we wanted to show that.
02:59 So the actors are completely welcome to pull these glasses off.
03:04 He's always decanting things, so we have decanters and evidence.
03:09 You'll see them all over the place.
03:11 And I just love the idea of this Tom Dixon being mixed with a 200-year-old French jar from a farm.
03:20 Fraser is an entertainer. He's a wonderful home chef,
03:24 so we wanted his kitchen to also reflect that.
03:27 I made some of your famous chili.
03:29 I followed the recipe to the letter,
03:32 though I'm not exactly sure how much a buttload of ground beef is.
03:37 It's a beautiful kitchen. Of course he has a pot filler.
03:41 The antique glass to illuminate.
03:44 We can go in and see his beautiful stemware,
03:48 and we have beautiful pieces from John Darien for color and texture.
03:54 We wanted to show that he entertains, so lots of platters.
03:57 And those are from France, the really thin, edged white platters.
04:03 And then we do have a full-size wine refrigerator, and it's a large one.
04:09 It's not like an 18-inch one. It's full-size.
04:12 And again, I think that goes to his wealth, I guess, but also his passion.
04:18 You know, that's something that he really cares about.
04:21 May I get you a glass of wine?
04:23 Yeah, sure. Crack open a box.
04:26 I'm kidding. I don't really think you buy boxed wine.
04:30 Your Steinway has its own alcoves.
04:33 Of course we have a Steinway on the set, and it's ready for Kelsey to play.
04:39 He's a very accomplished musician.
04:42 So anytime he wants to play, it's there.
04:45 If you've looked at the books, we call out Tom Ford because it's amazing,
04:52 and Tom Ford is sitting with Caravaggio.
04:56 So it shows the breadth of Frazier's interest and his sophistication.
05:02 [Gasps] It's a vintage Chateau Chien Blanc.
05:06 Well, I'll give you two some privacy.
