00:17 Esquire has asked me to explain some things about my life and career.

00:28 Is it true you have the fake throat prop from Game of Thrones?

00:31 Have you kept any other props?

00:33 Yeah, I'm a natural born thief, and it's known.

00:36 So they literally put out messages, producers, don't let Momoa take this,

00:40 don't let the props departments.

00:41 Or I become friends with them, and they're like, Jay, we can't give this to you.

00:45 Cuz they're like, I'm like, you're not gonna give it to me.

00:48 And I'll be like, did you see the present I got you that's right over there in that

00:52 corner, and then the thing will just disappear.

00:54 But yes, I like to take the body parts and things that I've used on ripping out of

00:59 people and fighting with, and it has a place on my desk.

01:02 I came up with it, so I mean, it should be mine.

01:04 Jason Momoa says no one knew he spoke English after playing Khal Drogo on

01:08 Game of Thrones.

01:09 I couldn't get a meeting to save my soul after Game of Thrones.

01:12 It wasn't until the third season came out where the show actually caught on, and

01:15 people were playing it back and watching three seasons of it.

01:18 When things started to kick off, that's when Zach called.

01:20 They didn't know what to do with me, and I remember meeting someone.

01:23 I don't really wanna throw them under the bus, but

01:25 he's a famous comedian that I really love.

01:26 And he's like, my God, I didn't know you spoke English.

01:28 And I was like, wow.

01:30 So I did, I was on a TV show called Stargate Atlantis,

01:35 which I mean, you had to be a sci-fi fan to know it.

01:37 And that was the job before I got Drogo.

01:39 So I was kind of a nobody, but had worked for a very long time at that point.

01:44 And what Dorthraki can you still use?

01:46 I don't really, I mean, I can read it, so if I had it, I could do it.

01:48 But I don't really know it offhand, except for her name, which is like,

01:52 Zhejelana Thieriani, something like that, or something grumbly.

01:56 What's your go-to cocktail to make with vodka?

01:59 I really love it neat, but if I had to have a cocktail,

02:04 I'd do the, we call it the Filthy Mamoa, but it's a really dirty martini.

02:08 I'd have the Filthy Mamoa, or there's, I love a Caesar or a Bloody Mary.

02:53 Well, I'm a big fan of alcohol, so I deleted all those memories.

03:05 I try to stay away from karaoke.

03:07 I'm not a very good singer, so I don't have a go-to song.

03:39 How do you describe your approach to personal style?

03:43 That's a good question.

03:44 I don't really know, I just kinda like colors and fabrics maybe.

03:48 And I always get things from different places and friends make them and

03:53 then I just give them to people and then keep them and

03:55 then some people give me things.

03:57 And I don't really have a home, so

03:58 I just kinda these things just kinda move with me.

04:00 Like I've had these pants since high school.

04:02 It's pretty messed up to say that, but

04:03 I'm still wearing the same clothes since I was in high school.

04:06 I'd give you another secret, but it would gross you out.

04:08 Explain the process to getting your eyes and

04:11 character for Aquaman The Lost Kingdom.

04:13 Well, I have this Neanderthal forehead.

04:15 It's a Hawaiian visor, I like to call it.

04:17 And it's very strong and I don't like my eyes touched.

04:21 And so we have to have a couple people pry my head open,

04:24 put these damn things in so I can play the character.

04:27 And they always tell me, you don't need that, you don't need that.

04:28 But I'm like, I need it, I need it for the character.

04:30 But I guess I'm sensitive, I have sensitive eyes.

04:33 Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista develop a buddy cop movie.

04:37 What's your favorite buddy movie of all time?

04:40 Buddy movie of all time.

04:41 My mom raised me on The Sting, I love The Sting.

04:44 But I would say my cheap favorite, must be 80s or 90s movie is Point Break.

04:51 I love Point Break.

04:53 Keanu and Patrick Swayze at his best, so those would be,

04:56 that's probably my favorite.

04:57 What about the development of the buddy cop movie?

05:00 Dave willed it.

05:01 I pitched him an idea.

05:02 Then this guy gets on Instagram, calls out David Leitch, another friend of ours.

05:07 Then the phone's ringing off the hook.

05:09 We audition writers.

05:10 Turns out to be our writer who's on our show.

05:12 He loved it, Jonathan Tropper from Sea.

05:15 And he pitched an amazing story, a continuation of what ours was.

05:18 And we're making it right after Minecraft, so I'm pretty excited.

05:22 Cuz me and Dave have a great time together, and he's a wonderful actor.

05:25 And we're both very big guys, but very sensitive big guys.

05:28 So I think it'll be fun, and it'll be silly.

05:32 Jason Momoa admits he was scared by Dune more than any other film.

05:37 I was surrounded by Josh Brolin, who I look up to very much.

05:41 Javier Bardem, who's the best in my eyes, for me.

05:45 Timothy, Oscar, Isaac.

05:47 So I'm surrounded by everyone.

05:49 I have to deliver all of the sci-fi jargon, which I'm not really known for,

05:53 the one who's gonna deliver those kind of lines.

05:56 So I'm starting to get nervous.

05:56 I'm like, man, I'm fake.

05:58 They're gonna know that I don't know how to do this.

06:00 [LAUGH] And I just got nervous, and I got scared.

06:03 And we pulled it off.

06:06 Danny didn't give me any notes.

06:07 I got through it, but nevertheless, I was pretty scared.

06:11 What's the one thing people can do to protect the oceans?

06:14 Let's just go with simple ones like recycling, staying away from single use

06:18 plastics, cuz they're gonna end up in our land and in our oceans.

06:21 Being responsible and bringing your own container, so

06:24 you don't have to buy plastic, that'd be wonderful.

06:26 Filling up and having refilling stations.

06:28 Riding a bike sometimes to work if you're close enough.

06:31 Start with that.

06:34 If you decided to give acting a break, what would you love to do instead?

06:37 Anything to help the environment, anything to help the planet.

06:39 So I would try to move into environmental work and just,

06:43 I mean, I'm doing everything I can right now.

06:44 So I would wanna work for

06:46 basically helping our planet in many different ways.
