Apart from the Angklung ( a traditional musical instrument from West Java ), there are several other traditional musical instruments commonly used by Indonesian people, including :
1. Kolintang, from Minahasa, North Sulawesi, to accompany songs, traditional ceremonies, dances and musical performances. Made from special wood, stacked, and played by hitting.
2. Saluang, from the Minangkabau tribe in West Sumatra. Made from thin bamboo or talang bamboo, which when blown makes a nicer and more melodious sound.
3. Genggong, from Bali, which is made from palm wood and bamboo. You need breathing techniques when blowing and pulling air through the gaps in the palm wood. Genggong has a string connected to the tongue to produce sound vibrations.
4. Gamelan, a set of instruments made from xylophones, drums and gongs, with a pentatonic tone system, which produces beautiful sounds when played in harmony.
5. Tifa, from Papua and Maluku. Made from a piece of empty Linggua wood, with a handle on the side. If Tifa is hit, it produces a sound that is in sync with the beat.
