00:00 As reported by the state TV of Iran, Irans Navy has announced acquisition of two new
00:06 domestically produced cruise missiles named the Talaiyeh and Nasir.
00:11 The missiles were unveiled at a naval base near the Indian Ocean in Konarak, around 1,400
00:17 kilometers southeast of Tehran.
00:19 Admiral Shehram Irani, the Navy chief, highlighted the capabilities of these missiles.
00:24 The Talaiyeh, with a range of exceeding 1,000 kilometers, was described as a fully smart
00:30 and capable missile for altering targets mid-flight.
00:32 Meanwhile, the Nasir is deployable on warships with a 100-kilometer range.
00:38 However, Iran has frequently publicized its advancements in military equipment that cannot
00:43 be independently verified.
00:46 For the unaware, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, also known as the IRGC, had previously
00:50 claimed the possession of cruise missiles with ranges up to 1,000 to 2,000 kilometers,
00:55 sufficient to reach Israel and U.S. bases in the region.
01:00 Irans extensive indigenism development includes drone Navy vessels, aircraft and
01:04 electronic systems.
01:06 There have been concerns globally, especially with Irans supply of suicide drones to
01:10 Russia for potential use in Ukraine, raising fears about the potential transfer of other
01:14 weapon systems to Moscow.
01:16 Meanwhile, Israel has also persistently cautioned about the threats posed by Tehrans missile
01:21 program, citing concerns not only for its convenient capabilities but also potential
01:26 to be utilized for nuclear weaponry if Iran were to acquire such capabilities.
01:31 And possibly this is the reason why in 2018 former U.S. President Donald Trump withdrew
01:35 the United States from Irans nuclear deal, asserting its inadequacy in addressing Irans
01:41 missile advancements.
01:42 Subsequently, severe sanctions were also reimposed on Iran.
01:46 And so, Tehran responded by enriching uranium up to 60 percent purity, a step away from
01:51 the 90 percent required for nuclear weapon production.
01:54 Now this introduction of new cruise missiles by Irans Navy adds to the regional tensions,
01:59 further escalating the concerns of the Middle Easts security landscape.
02:04 The situation amplifies worries surrounding Irans military capabilities and implications
02:07 for regional stability, especially in the light of previous tensions surrounding the
02:11 nuclear ambitions and international agreements and now adding to it with the Gaza war.
