00:00 You will see, you will see it all along.
00:04 The police officers that I met today, like firefighters, our security service officers
00:11 and other public servants, will be working at a time of the year when most of the rest
00:17 of us get at least some chance to relax.
00:19 And I wanted to say thank you.
00:21 I brought some mince pies and some chocolates.
00:24 The message that I gave to them and to the wider family of public servants is massive
00:30 thank you.
00:31 It's a really, really important job and doing it whilst the rest of the country relaxes
00:38 is absolutely key.
00:40 And look, it's a uniquely rewarding job, which is why I think we're seeing record police
00:45 numbers in the UK.
00:46 People do want to become police officers.
00:49 But it's an important job and I want to say thank you.
00:51 I'm going to go into the new year celebrating the successes that we've had in home affairs
00:56 this year.
00:57 The fact small boat arrivals are down, policing numbers are up, crime is down, serious violent
01:03 crime is down by around 50% since 2010.
01:09 So we are doing fantastic work.
01:11 I want to celebrate that.
01:12 I'm going to amplify that and do more in the new year.
01:16 The timing of the general election, that's for the prime minister to decide.
