The famous Christmas Day episode of EastEnders where "Dirty" Den Watts had a nasty surprise waiting for wife Angie after discovering she had lied to him about her terminal illness as the residents of Albert Square descend on The Queen Vic pub for a Xmas celebration. Meanwhile, Arthur Fowler has gone deeper into depression after the discovery months before he was behind the robbery of a charity fund in order to pay for his daughter Michelle's wedding. And as his family leave him to go to the pub, Arthur finally snaps in spectacular style...

This is from a recording when it was repeated on the Drama channel a few years ago. I've decided to upload it as a double episode as the original broadcast saw both episodes screened on Christmas Day and it better maintains it's impact. It gained a huge audience of 30 million that has never been beaten in soap terms, though it is surprising to watch back at it to see just what a low key build up it had, considering the fireworks that followed.
