Russian rally driver Aleksandr Bogomol, 36, was killed in an accident during the Rally Zolotoy Rog, then a round of the 1998 Russian Far Eastern Federal District Rally Cup [Dalniy Vostok Rally Cup].

It happened on Friday, 14 August 1998. After crossing the finish line of a special stage, near Partizansk in Primorsky Krai, Russia, east of Vladivostok, his car #19 clipped a curb at speed around 170 km/h (106 mi/h) and went airborn. It flipped four times in the air, before it landed and rolled several times. Bogomol and his co-driver Andrey Chervovkin were transferred to Partizansk hospital in serious condition.

Aleksandr Bogomol died from the injuries shortly after arrival. Despite serious damage to the car, its roll-cage survived the violent crash. Reportedly, the safety belts that were not properly tightened could have contributed to the driver's fatal injuries. His co-driver Andrey Chervovkin survived the accident.

This was reported to be the first fatality in the Dalniy Vostok rally scene. The Rally Zolotoy Rog-98, was held from 14 to 16 August 1998. Starting from Vladivostok's harbor the event had a total length of 643 kilometers (400 miles) in the eastern part of Russia, nearly the China and North Korea borders. 27 cars participated in the rally; Sergey Knyazev-Evgeniy Semenischev won in A8 class and Aleksey Novikov-Konstantin Danilochkin won "free" class - class for cars which didn't met requirements for other classes.
