00:31 Yes, Father, this year, Sambang Gabi is now starting for 2023.

00:37 Can you explain to us, Father, how important this tradition is for the Filipinos?

00:44 The original purpose of Sambang Gabi is to strengthen the faith in Asia

00:54 because we are the only Catholic nation in Asia.

01:00 But this is more important because of the belief that the Lord has given to us

01:10 any wish on the day of the Ascension to the Blessed Virgin.

01:16 This is a symbol of the power of prayer.

01:23 We prepare ourselves to receive the Messiah.

01:30 Father Dom, how can we show the significance of Christmas?

01:40 What is the role of attending Sambang Gabi?

01:44 Because some people don't know the significance of this.

01:47 They attend there, but they don't really listen to the Mass.

01:51 According to some observations, what are the right practices that we should show as Catholics?

01:57 There are many reasons why we attend Sambang Gabi.

02:04 But because of the pandemic, our churches have been closed again.

02:13 Many people are not attending the Mass.

02:21 There are jokes that Sambang Gabi is sometimes called Sambang Tabi,

02:27 or Sambang Pasyal,

02:30 or Sambang Kain

02:32 because the traditional Filipino food is served every Christmas.

02:39 But in order to make our Sambang Gabi more meaningful,

02:44 we need to focus on ourselves and ask ourselves why we are doing this.

02:52 It's like you are doing a communion.

02:57 You are always thinking about why you are approaching the altar,

03:03 who you are receiving,

03:06 and what you are doing.

03:08 You are not focusing on the altar, but on God.

03:13 This is the reason why we attend Sambang Gabi.

03:19 We need to focus on ourselves.

03:23 Jesus wants to enter our lives and hearts again this Christmas.

03:32 That's right. Father, I hope that's how Filipinos view this.

03:37 But in your view, how has Sambang Gabi changed over the years?

03:44 And how do you see this as a lasting tradition over the years?

03:51 The Filipino faith cannot be denied in adhering to the tradition

04:04 This is where we receive the blessings and the true preparation for Christmas.

06:12 It is up to God. As long as our hearts are open to receive Him and His blessings,

06:21 we will prepare ourselves spiritually for Christmas.

06:27 Father Dom has sent us a beautiful message.

06:30 But I have a question, Father Dom.

06:33 What is the significance of Shem Naaraw?

06:36 And how true is it that when you complete the Shem Naaraw of the Holy Mass,

06:41 when you pray, your wish will come true?

06:46 That is our belief as Catholics and Christians,

06:51 that prayer to God is a sacred duty.

07:00 Especially when the Holy Night is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin.

07:06 This is the Shem Naaraw of the Holy Mass to the Blessed Virgin

07:12 as a preparation for the return of God,

07:17 for the return of Christ to our hearts.

07:22 We believe that God hears our prayers and wishes.

07:30 And the Holy Night is not a secret.

07:34 For many years, in the centuries of tradition,

07:38 there were people who were healed from their illness,

07:41 were saved from debt,

07:44 and had a chance to have a meal together and to be reunited with their families.

07:52 We cannot put aside the Holy Night of the Blessed Virgin.

08:05 for allowing the early return of Christ to our country as a preparation for the return of God to our lives.
