00:02 - Hi, my name is Sterling Hampton.
00:06 I'm the director, producer, composer, and editor of "Merman."
00:11 "Merman" is about a 59-year-old black queer man
00:15 who is a leather enthusiast,
00:17 emergency nurse, husband, and friend.
00:21 We filmed this project in Palm Springs in seven hours.
00:25 And in the project,
00:27 Andre talks about his struggles with masculinity,
00:31 identity, battling bigotry,
00:34 and navigating his young life,
00:38 highlighting how later on,
00:41 he kind of figured out that the things
00:43 that make him different are truly the things
00:45 that make him beautiful.
00:46 And I think that many people can identify with that.
00:51 They can relate to it.
00:53 And that's what makes the project special.
00:56 There's gonna be one part, at least,
00:59 that you also connect with Andre on.
01:03 And ultimately, I think the project proves
01:05 that people are multidimensional.
01:08 There's many different facets to us.
