00:10 >> Peter Morgan always said that the actors don't really settle into their

00:15 roles until the second season.

00:16 And you do feel a certain relief coming back.

00:20 It was all the fun of it without so much of the fear.

00:22 >> I've sort of been living with her for a long time.

00:28 It's four years for me.

00:31 And this time I felt a bit more grounded.

00:35 But during the last season, sort of did carry a lot of weight.

00:39 >> We all knew this is the last season of the whole show.

00:45 In a way, I felt more confident and more reassured.

00:50 >> There was an ease to coming back to it.

00:54 >> Come here, because you know what you're doing with the character.

00:59 And there's an anticipation about what Peter Morgan is gonna have given you to

01:04 do this time.

01:04 >> What I think I was unprepared for was not just the popularity of the show, but

01:10 was also realizing how far we've all come.

01:13 [MUSIC]

01:15 And I think maybe it's the subject about service and commitment.

01:20 But there is an extraordinarily large percentage of the people that make

01:25 the crown that have been there since day one.

01:27 [MUSIC]

01:29 >> The crown started some ten years ago.

01:33 Even though the cast changed, a lot of the crew have been here from day one.

01:37 [MUSIC]

01:39 >> The show has a culture to it.

01:41 [MUSIC]

01:43 Where everybody just assumes that everybody else is at the very top of their game and

01:48 giving themselves completely to it.

01:50 There's an extraordinary uniformity of excellence.

01:53 >> And action.

01:55 >> It sort of felt like coming home.

01:57 [MUSIC]

01:59 And also to come back to work with that crew that I knew very, very well and

02:04 they just sort of felt like my family.

02:06 They're phenomenal.

02:07 It's like a constant raising of the bar.

02:09 [MUSIC]

02:12 >> And here she comes.

02:13 [APPLAUSE]

02:18 [MUSIC]

02:28 >> Somehow Peter has managed very successfully to tell the story of

02:35 who we are via the story of this family.

02:39 >> I couldn't have done it ten years earlier and

02:41 I wouldn't be able to do it in ten years time.

02:43 So it came to me at exactly the right time in my life and

02:46 I gave everything to it.

02:47 I don't think I left anything on the table.

02:49 [MUSIC]

02:51 >> It's as good as it gets.

02:53 I've always felt from the beginning so,

02:57 so utterly proud to be part of this beautiful jigsaw.

03:03 >> Everyone's so incredibly supportive.

03:05 I had this really odd experience that I'd never really felt before.

03:09 And I just didn't feel like I had to earn their respect.

03:12 I just walked in and I had it.

03:14 And then you get to hire so many talented people.

03:17 >> I joined Pete when he came up with the idea to make this into a TV show,

03:21 so ten years ago.

03:22 Now I have five researchers, which is incredible,

03:25 given it started out with just one or two of us.

03:27 >> We've had our team now for the whole five years we've been on it.

03:32 They have the same level of commitment and care as we do.

03:37 >> And I think that standard that they produce is phenomenal.

03:40 >> The crown is made by people who know what they're making and

03:43 why they're making it.

03:44 And that's always a real inspiration to have a real vision in place.

03:48 >> The Emmy goes to- >> The master goes to

03:51 Gillian Anderson, that's a good issue.

03:52 >> Josh Olivia Coleman.

03:53 >> Claire Foy, the crown.

03:55 >> I'm delighted by the thousands of crew we've employed and

03:58 thousands and thousands of actors we've employed.

04:01 >> There are script editors become staff writers who are now show runners and

04:05 that's across every department.

04:07 We've provided that opportunity and people have grown and

04:10 been able to express themselves.

04:12 >> And action.

04:13 >> The experiences I've had and

04:14 what I've learned through this process I will take with me forever.

04:19 >> I will miss everybody, all the cast,

04:22 all the crew in this great family of mine.

04:27 >> It was a very familial feel and you forget about the scale,

04:31 because you're just talking about what you know, which is the character.

04:34 >> It's been the honor of my life to be part of this.

04:37 >> It's not a job that will ever come around again, and I will miss it terribly.

04:43 >> Biggest impression it will leave is an extraordinary piece of 60 hours of

04:47 television, filmed mostly by the same people, with Peter Morgan at the helm.

04:52 That is its legacy, it's its own monument in a way.

04:56 >> To leave a really brilliant job behind is always very counterintuitive,

05:02 because you've just gotten to a place where you're very comfortable in

05:05 the character, very comfortable with the people.

05:06 [MUSIC]

05:10 >> But I also think that whatever we could give, we've done that, and

05:13 I know that we've done that.

05:15 And so I feel a kind of peace about it as well.

05:17 [MUSIC]

05:20 >> We all want to be part of something meaningful.

05:23 These stories, they'll be told forever, and

05:27 I think Peter Morgan has made sure we've told this part of the story.

05:33 Absolutely brilliantly.
