00:00 The Supreme Court has now studied the case of the doctor who was jailed after the case of a patient lawyer who had complications in the operation.

00:10 According to Chief Justice Alexander Guismundo,

00:13 along with the investigation, if his lawyer is lacking, Salima Refran is on the case.

00:20 In the first meet the press of the Supreme Court,

00:25 Chief Justice Alexander Guismundo said that they are now studying the case of Dr. Iggy Agbayani.

00:32 Dr. Agbayani died while in jail in Manila City Jail after being convicted in the case of reckless imprudence resulting in serious physical injuries.

00:42 This stemmed from the complaint of his patient lawyer who had complications.

00:48 The conviction was filed by the court after his lawyer was unable to file a memorandum on time.

00:55 Apparently, there was, I don't know, there were some lapses committed by the lawyer in handling the case.

01:03 And I think that's the main root cause of the issues that came up.

01:08 So, we put a CIPRA, Code of Professional Responsibility and Accountability.

01:13 Let's take a look if the CIPRA is not enough to be able to address these incidents

01:19 where lawyers are apparently not doing their tasks effectively and efficiently to protect the interests of their client.

01:27 We'll look into that.

01:28 We tried to get the lawyer's law form from Dr. Agbayani, but he refused to give a statement.

01:34 The jailing of Dr. Agbayani is under the medical community's control.

01:39 That's why Chief Justice Guzmundo talked to doctors who can treat lawyers because of the case.

01:47 We read on social media that doctors are afraid to treat lawyers and judges.

01:54 The doctors are pitiful, especially me. I'm not afraid.

01:58 Maybe no doctor can treat me if I go to the ER.

02:02 If the Chief Justice finds out, we might be in danger.

02:06 It shouldn't be like that.

02:08 If lawyers are guilty, doctors are guilty too.

02:13 And I hope they will also keep faith to their profession.
