01:26 Those two enlisted as buddies together.

01:31 "Actually, I'm really sad that I can't make happy memories

04:26 She stopped by our studio to talk to Raya Niftos
04:28 about the strategy when it comes to releasing music
04:31 in her Disney days.
04:33 - So your debut album, Alchemical Part One.
04:36 So you're splitting it into two parts.
04:38 What was the idea behind telling a story
04:41 in sequence like that?
04:43 - I felt like I was writing the two halves
04:46 in such different head spaces.
04:48 Like the first half was really like about
04:51 the ending of something and an entire year of my life
04:54 and the processing of that that happened.
04:56 And then there was like a very stark kind of
04:59 sonic page turn when it came to the sort of like
05:02 next musical phase that I stepped into.
05:04 It just kind of ended up making sense to split it.
05:06 - How did being part of Disney kind of build you up
05:09 to be the artist that you are?
05:11 Or in a good way or a bad way, anyway.
05:13 - I was so young, it almost feels like it didn't happen.
05:15 Like, yeah, you know, like, like, you know,
05:18 it's like when people are like,
05:19 tell me about middle school.
05:20 And I know that sounds funny because there's all of this
05:23 video footage of me on the Disney channel, right?
05:25 Like, so people are like, shut up.
05:26 Like that can't be real, but it just was such a whirlwind
05:29 and it was so fast and it, my life changed so drastically.
05:32 Like to go from being a 14 year old doing whatever
05:36 to then like that, that whole thing,
05:38 that whirlwind experience with them that is so singular.
05:41 'Cause it's, I think it's like one of the only
05:44 like old fashioned studio contracts left.
05:46 Like it's just really, it's very like MGM classics.
05:49 I had no idea what I was doing and I had no idea who I was.
05:52 And I just kind of was going with the flow
05:54 and like trying not to upset anybody.
05:56 And I was trying to process like a lot going on
05:58 in my own young life and I was bleaching my hair blonde.
06:03 I was dating boys.
06:04 I was, you know, I was just doing whatever I was doing
06:07 as a young teenager.

06:50 And through costume, wardrobe, through good energy,
06:53 we can achieve that.
06:54 - The song just reminds me of just like nature,
06:56 earth, smiles, sun flares.
06:59 And that's why we came to the hills in Calabasas,
07:01 California to shoot everything,
07:02 where we have these beautiful, you know,
07:04 brown and green hills that in post,
07:06 we're gonna turn all green.
