00:03 Okay, so we knew this was bound to happen.

00:05 Some of these sports betting operators,

00:07 you know, hearing, hey, you know,

00:09 we're gonna have to push responsible gaming,

00:11 push responsible gaming.

00:12 And then in the, you know,

00:13 industry of legalized sports betting,

00:15 very quiet, okay, you know,

00:16 agreeing to all of these new regulations.

00:19 Now we're finally starting to get some pushback here.

00:21 It was inevitable, Matt, because again,

00:23 it's one side pushing responsible,

00:25 the other side essentially determining,

00:28 hey, this is just going too far.

00:30 We wanna make our revenue, not worry about it as much.

00:33 I don't know if that's a good explanation for it.

00:35 What is yours?

00:36 Well, I think we need to be fair

00:38 when we're talking about this,

00:39 because I don't know any sports book operator out there

00:43 that wants problem gamblers betting on their website.

00:47 Causes headaches, they run out of money.

00:50 You want responsible gamblers on your website.

00:53 It's just simple, you know,

00:56 they're worth more than the problem gamblers.

00:59 So just from a business standpoint,

01:01 no sports book wants problem gamblers on their website,

01:04 but yeah, you have to remember that this is still a business

01:08 and as much as every business is coming out here saying,

01:11 yeah, we wanna protect everyone.

01:13 We're gonna do everything we can.

01:14 You know, you gotta push something sometimes, right?

01:18 You gotta see where you can push back.

01:19 You gotta see where you can take an inch here or there.

01:22 And FanDuel apparently did some of that

01:24 with new laws that came out in New York.

01:27 You know, New York was tweaking a couple of things

01:30 to tighten up responsible gambling protection.

01:33 And FanDuel came back with a couple of public comments

01:36 saying, well, can we do this?

01:38 Can we do that?

01:40 Can we maybe try this?

01:41 You know, they, for example,

01:44 everybody in the US sports betting industry

01:47 works with affiliates.

01:49 Those affiliates will go out

01:50 and basically recruit customers for them, send it to them.

01:53 Both parties get a share of the revenue somehow.

01:56 FanDuel did not want any blame

02:01 if their affiliates messed up

02:02 and said something that they shouldn't have.

02:04 And the New York State Gaming Commission said,

02:07 you know, no way.

02:08 We obviously are going to see better compliance

02:12 if the sports books have to be responsible for this as well.

02:16 You know, it was stuff like that, right?

02:20 Like they don't want,

02:21 New York doesn't want certain phrases

02:24 to be used by sports books in a nefarious way.

02:27 They are looking at search engine optimization,

02:31 for an example.

02:32 And they say, look, you know,

02:33 there could be a sports book out here

02:35 who puts in, you know, metadata, problem gambling help.

02:40 And then that could register in Google

02:42 that could come up to somebody

02:43 looking for problem gambling help.

02:45 They click on it and now there's smack dab

02:47 in the middle of a sports book.

02:49 So, you know, you have to look at what New York was doing

02:52 and say for sure that these are good changes.

02:54 I didn't see any of them that I thought

02:55 really pushed it too far.

02:57 But, you know, again, FanDuel is,

03:01 they are one of the ones making the most money right now

03:04 in US sports betting, but it's a business.

03:07 And so you have to go out and see

03:09 where you can kind of win those edges, right?

03:12 But yeah, it's not a great look to have this coming out

03:16 that, you know, the biggest US sports betting operator

03:20 is giving out public comments saying, you know,

03:25 well, let's not do this or that,

03:27 that could potentially help problem gamblers.

03:30 That's not the kind of headline we want coming across

03:32 for US sports betting.

03:34 But I think, like I said, at the end,

03:36 you just have to remember it's a business

03:37 and people are gonna do what they can

03:40 to get those pennies out.
