00:00 The Garden Report is brought to you by FanDuel, the exclusive wagering partner of the CLNS
00:04 Media Network.
00:05 Hey, Bobby Manning here.
00:08 Welcome to the Garden Report.
00:10 The Celtics beat the Knicks emphatically here, score 133 points.
00:14 But another frustrating moment a week after Jason Tatum's ejection.
00:17 It was a week ago, right?
00:19 Yeah, you're right.
00:20 Jalen Brown ejected tonight.
00:21 Two straight technicals in the fourth quarter.
00:25 Charges on in the court.
00:26 Very frustrated in the locker room after Jason and some others were saying that they'd
00:30 never seen Jalen that angry.
00:33 And he went to the podium and kept the comments going after the game in terms of his frustration
00:37 with the officiating after this one.
00:40 Gonna rack up a lot of fine money, Joe Sway.
00:42 Yeah, well, he wishes he got his money's worth.
00:44 So I guess this is his way of making that happen.
00:47 I mean, listen, for the official to react the way he did so quickly, I got to say on
00:53 the Celtics postgame show, I got to side with Jalen on this one.
00:55 I mean...
00:56 All right, you didn't like Jason last week.
00:58 I didn't like Jason last week.
00:59 That's correct.
01:00 This is different.
01:01 This one's different if you ask me for a couple of reasons.
01:04 One, the conversation that he was having with the official, the official handed him that
01:08 technical foul and Jalen did the right thing.
01:09 He separated himself from that official.
01:11 If people want to argue that he shouldn't have approached another official, you know,
01:15 he shouldn't have voiced his opinion at all.
01:17 All right, that's fair if you want to say that, but that's not where that second technical
01:20 foul came from.
01:21 It came from another official who was far, far away from Jalen.
01:24 And whether he didn't like his body language or the mannerisms he was doing, I don't think
01:29 that's enough for him to decide, OK, your night is over.
01:31 Sure, the Celtics won the game.
01:33 It didn't cost them a game tonight, but I don't think of an official, to use Jalen's
01:39 words, you know, should be that emotional over something like that or at least had that
01:43 trigger figure to hand out two technical fouls that I felt like just didn't...
01:48 That second one wasn't warranted, if you ask me.
01:50 Here's Jalen talking about the ejection after.
01:52 To be honest, I'm not sure.
01:55 But I wish I would have got my money's worth.
01:58 I always thought my first career ejection would be something a little more exciting.
02:03 You know, maybe a tussle or something, you know, guys get folded up, go to the ground,
02:08 not some over emotional ref who had a bad day.
02:12 Like, most upset about is I should have got my money's worth.
02:15 What was the second thing that got you tossed?
02:18 I don't know.
02:19 I don't think it's a difference between showing emotion and it being disrespectful or derogatory
02:25 towards another person.
02:26 I don't think I was directing it towards him whatsoever, especially on the second one.
02:31 It wasn't even close.
02:32 I'm on a bench.
02:33 You know what I mean?
02:34 I'm talking from the sideline.
02:35 You can't even hear anything I'm saying.
02:37 So if he calls a tech from across the court, you know, that's for sure have to do with
02:42 somebody having their emotions too involved in whatever else is going on and accessing
02:46 a power with technical fouls.
02:49 Like, you know, I ain't going to comment on officiating in general, but I am going to
02:54 comment on this guy in particular tonight.
02:56 I thought that was thought that was bullshit.

03:03 Right now, new customers get $150 in bonus bets with any winning $5 Moneyline bet.
03:12 FanDuel, official partner of the NFL.
03:15 So he was frustrated.
03:19 There's no doubt about it.
03:20 I don't blame him, man.
03:21 I do think in terms of the demeanor after, you do have to calm down a little bit.
03:27 Chris Stapps talked about this too.
03:29 The team as a whole has to do a better job of not being so demonstrative toward the rest.
03:34 And I don't think that's been a massive problem for this year, especially comparing it to
03:36 recent years where it's been out of control.
03:39 But in moments like that, you take yourself out of a 10 point game at that point.
03:44 You're prone to give up that lead and lose this game.
03:46 And I did start to think as we saw the Knicks call within seven, they might blow this.
03:51 And that would have been absolute disaster.
03:52 You can laugh about it.
03:53 And the Celtics mostly did after, you know, the way he reacted.
03:56 They were like, "We'll get the look on Sam's face."
04:00 But you lose the game.
04:01 It's a completely different reaction to that.
04:03 Yeah, no, for sure.
04:04 And that's why I side with Jalen in the same sense, because it's like, if that was the
04:09 case, it'd be that much more disappointing.
04:11 It'd be frustrating for the Celtics.
04:13 And I understand that if you're Jalen.
04:15 I just think that this is something that's been going on across the league.
04:20 I don't know if it's a matter of the referees are trying to do the annual draw line in the
04:25 sand and try to get players to stop chirping, which is always a thing that they do year
04:31 after year.
04:32 But this deep into the regular season is when they usually start to dial it back a little
04:36 bit.
04:37 And I'm waiting to see that across the league.
04:38 So I don't think this is just about what happened here at TD Guard.
04:42 It's been happening across the league.
04:43 The Lakers, one week into the season, they emailed the league.
04:45 I don't know if the Celtics will take it that far, but hopefully this type of thing doesn't
04:49 happen again between the officials and a particular player.
04:52 Now, for the officials to go out and talk about his body language and doing the, what
04:58 is it, when you push somebody off or you, you know, it's like, I don't want to hear
05:02 what you have to say.
05:03 According to the guidebook, that's a form of disrespect.
05:06 But I just feel like throwing the book at Jalen in this instant, I didn't think it was
05:10 fair.
05:11 I think it's the demonstrative approach, much like Jason last week.
05:14 I agree.
05:15 The second one, questionable, especially with him on the bench, not able to interact directly
05:19 with the ref there.
05:21 That's probably why he got so fired up.
05:22 So I do agree with you that unlike the Jason one, which I thought was warranted a week
05:28 ago in terms of how he reacted to that situation, Jalen, especially not being a guy who complains
05:33 as much, Khristaps even said that, that's not him.
05:36 His first objection.
05:37 He doesn't usually get beat up.
05:38 Yeah, he wanted, he wanted to be a tussler or something.
05:41 Man, if they didn't hold him back, maybe it would have been, but I guess he was ejected
05:44 already at that point.
05:45 It was crazy.
05:46 You can go watch that.
05:47 We had some video of it too, up on Celtics All Access here.
05:50 I will talk a little bit about Khristaps Porzingis' return in the next video here.
05:54 He played a big part in this win tonight, but Celtics trying to figure out that officiating.
05:58 It's a story again, to start this year.
06:00 And you wonder how this is going to progress throughout the fall of the year.
06:02 Are they going to be able to compose themselves in these situations better?
06:05 Are we still going to see these interactions for the rest of the year?
06:08 Let us know below.
06:09 And we have off until Tuesday.
06:11 Oh man.
06:12 Celtics Cavs.
06:13 It's going to be a mini series.
06:14 It's going to be a weekend.
06:15 And they'll get back to work early next week.
06:17 So well-deserved rest here for the Celtics.
06:20 Best they've looked offensively in a minute here.
06:22 And we'll have more coverage, more conversation into next week here.
06:26 For now, Josue Pavon, Bobby Mann.
