00:00 The state of calamity has been declared in Surigao del Sur.
00:04 Let's find out the update from Surigao del Sur Governor Alexander Pimentel.
00:10 Governor Pimentel, good afternoon.
00:12 Good afternoon, Wing, and good afternoon to those listening here on PDV5.
00:23 Governor Pimentel, how many barangays or families are affected by this strong earthquake in Surigao del Sur based on your assessment?
00:38 The affected barangays are 114,958, and the individuals are 442,225.
00:59 The number of families displaced is 24,452. The number of individuals displaced is 82,824.
01:10 115 evacuation centers are now being relocated to those evacuation centers because we're asking why the aftershock is so strong. There's 6.0, 5.8.
01:32 People are still afraid of the aftershock because there might be a tsunami.
01:41 Our household has been affected by the earthquake in Bisling City because of the increased collapse and the earthquake in Barubo.
01:53 We have 17 persons injured in the three old cities, Bisling City, Marihatag, Lima, Carmen, Pito, and Sacoce.
02:14 Our total damage is 216 and the partial damage is 2,237,000. The estimated cost is P130,140,975.
02:36 The estimated cost of infrastructure in schools and government buildings is P201 million.
02:44 The road and bridges and the seawall is P108 million.
02:51 Our assessment is ongoing. I'm sorry because earlier when you called, there was no signal because I'm here in the mountains of San Miguel.
03:04 Hello? Yes sir.
03:06 Hello? Yes sir.
03:08 Will the casualties and the injured people be added to the number of casualties because of the aftershock?
03:19 I hope not. I'm sorry because we want to say that it's devastating because the wind from the trends and the sea is very strong.
03:34 But our damages are small. Only three buildings have collapsed.
03:41 We are here in the Philbooks. Secretary Garcela arrived on November 4 and gave us assistance of P3,000, P5,000 and P70,000.
04:02 I'm here in the mountains of San Miguel to give assistance to our IPs, to the Manobos.
04:12 We received a package but we were able to get it and we were able to give them P2,000.
04:24 Governor, what is the update from the assistance of the government, local government and national government?
04:32 What are the people receiving from there now?
04:37 So far, we received P70,000 from DSWD Secretary Rex Garcela.
04:50 We are meeting on November 4 together with the mayor in my office.
04:56 The immediate need is P70,000 but now we are adding because people are returning.
05:06 Aftershock 6.0 is increasing. They are afraid of a tsunami.
05:15 But so far, it's okay. We're just wondering why aftershocks are so strong.
05:24 We have more than 500 aftershocks that are strong.
05:29 We are adding all the buildings now because the Philbooks said that if there's a crack,
05:36 especially in schools, if they have a big crack, it might collapse. If there's a lot of aftershocks, the crack might increase.
05:45 So I declared no classes and no work so that our engineers and DPWs engineers have an inspection of all the buildings to be instilled.
06:02 I also declared no, cancel all Christmas parties in local government, mayors, barangay.
06:12 Instead, I'm telling them, instead of spending on Christmas parties, donate to the affected areas.
06:23 Governor, have the lines of communication and electricity returned to Surigao del Sur?
06:31 God's mercy, all of them are back yesterday.
06:33 That's good.
06:36 Governor, what are the priorities and needs in Surigao del Sur?
06:43 As of now, we are returning the lines of communication because we don't have jobs.
06:50 We are also receiving feedback. I'm thankful to President Bongbong Marcos. I'm asking him to come here on October 5.
07:01 Secretary Gatayan will return. But due to COVID, I'm thankful that he sent Secretary Gatayan, the DSWD,
07:14 a quick response and immediately answer to the people who are asking for food.
07:20 We are assessing the extent of damage.
07:27 Many buildings were destroyed, about 400 plus houses were totally damaged.
07:37 Many made of light materials were left on the shoreline.
07:44 I've told them several times not to do it in the danger zone, but we will do it anyway.
07:49 It will be back and forth because the people of Mananagat don't want to live on the relocation site.
07:54 We will try to convince them to make a house again, but we will keep it away from the concert.
08:02 Alright. Thank you very much for your time, Sir Governor Alexander Pimentel.
08:07 Thank you very much as well.
