01:03 That whole concept was practically set up for failure, and yet developer Motive Studio
01:10 blew it all out of the water.
01:20 Using new advancements in lighting, sound design, controls, and optimization, this quickly
01:25 became the definitive iteration of 2008's Dead Space.
01:29 The Ishimura has never been this terrifying, between the creaking metal, stalking necromorphs,
01:34 and how you're forced to sacrifice comfort and safety for progression and secrets.
01:40 And so, the wait begins for Dead Space 2 Remake.
01:51 Amnesia The Bunker
02:01 For a while, Amnesia seemed like it was kind of meandering with 2020's Rebirth.
02:06 It felt like the IP had had its day in the sun already and would never get it back.
02:10 However, the Bunker was the shot in the arm it needed, and it is terrifying.
02:16 Set in World War I, you play as a French soldier trapped in the bowels of a bunker that houses
02:21 a vicious beast.
02:30 With limited resources, even more limited windows of safety, you will need to find a
02:34 way out of the bunker or die trying.
02:37 The Bunker is by far the most stressful horror game we've played this year, as time is
02:42 always running against you.
02:44 This is not for the faint of heart, but it is so hard to not recommend it to the average
02:49 player.
02:50 Don't shrug this one off.
02:59 Dredge Your task in Dredge is a simple one.
03:10 Venture out and catch some fish.
03:12 Nothing more, nothing less, until you start meeting the locals.
03:22 It isn't long after your arrival that you find out the region is plagued with deadly
03:26 sea creatures that only emerge at night.
03:29 These monsters can do something as simple as infect your valuable catches, or something
03:33 significant like damaging your boat.
03:36 There is a lot of strategy involved between upgrading your boat, hunting specific fish
03:40 to fulfill special orders, and having to risk your own safety for something as measly as
03:45 a little squid or flounder.
03:47 The terror can be kept at bay most of the time, but when you're forced to face it head
03:51 on, it goes hard.
03:59 Little Goody Two-Shoes In between the Final Fantasy hype, Square
04:13 Enix has published a couple of super strong horror games.
04:17 Little Goody Two-Shoes was the second one, and we weren't expecting it to be this captivating.
04:22 On the surface you have an adventure game inspired by classic Walt Disney animated films,
04:27 as well as 90's anime.
04:28 However, there are darker aspects in play.
04:38 We don't want to spoil too much, but you really don't want to dismiss this game just
04:41 because it was made in RPG Maker.
04:44 Little Goody Two-Shoes is wonderfully written, and the decisions you make will affect what
04:48 kind of an ending you wind up with.
04:50 Will you survive the witching hour, or will you become another hunt for the religiously
04:54 zealous villagers?
05:02 My Friendly Neighborhood Admittedly, My Friendly Neighborhood is more
05:14 funny than scary.
05:15 That doesn't mean there aren't some jump scares here and there, though.
05:19 When a defunct studio behind a children's show is mysteriously back on the air, one
05:24 handyman must go in and disable the antenna for good.
05:34 Clever in its concept and mechanics, My Friendly Neighborhood is more than just Sesame Street
05:39 meets Resident Evil.
05:40 The themes of war and friendship are heavily woven into the fabric of its narrative, along
05:46 with its creepypasta scares.
05:48 Plus, if any of the Szymanski brothers have their name behind it, you know it's worth
05:53 checking out.
05:54 Really, if you like horror games, you better be paying attention to these guys.
06:05 Paranormacite - The Seven Mysteries of Hanjo
06:18 Paranormacite was the other horror title Square Enix published this year.
06:22 The game focuses on a young man as he becomes invested in a series of tall tales known as
06:28 The Seven Mysteries of Hanjo.
06:32 Yes, it is a visual novel with some light point-and-click adventure elements, but don't
06:40 let that dissuade you.
06:42 The way Paranormacite does horror is unsettling and will haunt you long after you set the
06:47 controller down.
06:49 The game will mess with your head in unexpected ways, and if you want to experience this for
06:53 yourself, you can pick it up on Nintendo Switch and PC for a modest price.
06:57 It's worth it, trust us on this.
07:08 Haunted House - Many may not notice it, but Atari is making
07:19 a quiet and humble comeback, handing their IPs to smaller studios to create new and fun

07:26 Haunted House is their latest endeavor, developed by Orbit Studio.
07:30 When her uncle and friends vanish, young Lynn must set foot in a mansion that is constantly

07:43 Buff up your lamp, stamina, and health as you sneak past monsters, retrieve artifacts
07:48 like old Atari cartridges, and rescue allies to strengthen yourself for more runs.
07:53 Pong Quest was an oddly pleasant start for this new era of Atari back in 2020, but for
07:58 us to be talking about Haunted House in 2023?
08:02 Color us impressed with the art style, music, and mechanics.
08:10 Master Detective Archives - Rain Code - The second we heard the lead writer of the
08:23 Danganronpa games was making something new, we were already on board.
08:28 Master Detective Archives evokes that series in its music and art style, and yet it manages
08:33 to stand on its own with its gameplay and story.
08:42 As the surviving member of a small group of "Master Detectives," you will utilize a
08:46 variety of powers to solve mysteries surrounding Kanae Ward, a facility owned by the questionable
08:51 Amaterasu Corporation.
08:54 The game encourages you to investigate anything and everything, and quickly teaches you that
08:58 not everyone is to be trusted.
09:00 It borrows the best parts of Danganronpa while morphing them into something of its own, and
09:05 after the first hour, you'll be hooked.
09:08 Plus, Shinigami, your death god friend, is perhaps the funniest character in video games
09:14 this year.

09:16 Alan Wake 2 - Danganronpa - The Second We Heard the Lead Writer of the Danganronpa Games
09:35 - Speaking of games involving some detective work, Alan Wake 2 sees you controlling both
09:40 our favorite spooked author and an FBI agent investigating a series of gruesome murders
09:46 conducted by a cult.
09:48 Connect clues in the mind place for new leads, new questions, and more as you try to uncover
09:53 the identities of these killers.
10:03 Sure it isn't like the original Alan Wake where it was somewhat like a horror shooter
10:08 game, but the mystery you'll unravel here is both haunting and brilliant, especially
10:13 as you find more pages of Alan's manuscript.

10:30 Resident Evil 4 - Danganronpa - Resident Evil 4 was perhaps one of our most anticipated
10:42 games this year despite some of the skepticism that was floating around up until launch.
10:47 This remake of the 2005 classic managed to focus on what worked back then while reeling
10:52 back on more nonsensical moments and refining the gunplay.
11:03 No longer do you have to stand still to shoot, now you can move and blast away at the same
11:08 time.
11:09 Some gimmicks do still rely on quick time events, but they are way more responsive than
11:14 ever before.
11:15 Basically, it plays like the new Resident Evil games and still has the same level of
11:20 action and camp as some of the other titles.
11:23 Simply put, this is one of many must-play titles in 2023 in addition to the other 9
11:29 you just saw here.
