00:25 - Jalen Hurts is always worth it

00:29 because Jalen Hurts' rushing equity is off the charts,

00:31 right, and this is a huge game.

00:33 And unlike my earlier statement about Brock Purdy,

00:36 I have question marks about that.

00:38 Now, people would say, well, it's not fair

00:40 because in that game, he got hurt.

00:42 Yeah, and?

00:45 I mean, part of, you know, when you're a quarterback,

00:47 when you take hits in the pocket,

00:49 it's because you are not getting the ball quick enough.

00:51 It's because you're not making the right read.

00:54 There's a lot of issues there when you're getting hit.

00:56 Some of it is on the offensive line,

00:57 but he's got a good offensive line.

00:59 And I think that, you know, with Jalen Hurts,

01:03 here's a spot here where he has a great offensive line.

01:05 We know the pass rush is ferocious

01:07 when it comes to the 49ers, right?

01:08 We know Chase Young and Nick Bosa,

01:10 this is their new thing now, and it's working, absolutely.

01:13 But they also haven't faced an offensive line this good yet

01:16 with Kelsey, with Maialata.

01:18 Like, all these guys are just tremendous, right?

01:20 These are all pro guys there.

01:21 This is a first-class offensive line.

01:24 And the way you slow that pass rush down

01:27 is with getting Jalen Hurts out there in RPOs,

01:30 getting him out there in designed runs,

01:32 and make those guys chase.

01:34 Make them chase all over the field.

01:36 So if anything, I actually feel better about Jalen Hurts

01:39 than any other piece in the offense,

01:41 because I think Jalen Hurts not only can avoid the rush,

01:43 but look, we've seen it here.

01:44 He's running the gauntlet with these teams, Matt.

01:47 And maybe these teams, you know,

01:48 don't have as good of a defense, theoretically,

01:50 as the San Francisco 49ers,

01:52 but that secondary for the 49ers isn't great either.

01:54 And when Hufanga got hurt, to me,

01:56 that was also kind of the death knell of that secondary.

01:59 So nobody's been able to quite expose that yet,

02:01 and I want to emphasize yet,

02:02 because now you have Smith, you have Brown,

02:05 you have a lot of pieces here

02:07 where you can really attack that secondary

02:09 with some first-class talent.

02:11 But let's go back and let's take a look at this gauntlet

02:12 they've been running, right?

02:13 Against Miami, Jalen Hurts at 24 points.

02:16 Against Washington, who always plays them tough, 27 points.

02:19 Dallas, 25 points.

02:20 Kansas City, 19 points.

02:22 And last week against Buffalo, with the overtime, 35 points.

02:25 So Jalen Hurts shows up in big games.

02:27 Jalen Hurts is putting up big numbers.

02:29 Again, if you're going to go up to a quarterback

02:31 and spend at the very top of the board,

02:33 I think he's the guy to do it with.

02:34 But you don't necessarily have to pair either,

02:37 because although it is expensive to get to A.J. Brown,

02:40 it could be a Smith day,

02:41 you could just run Hurts by himself,

02:43 or even Hurts and DeAndre Swift, if you want to go that way.

02:46 Because once again, don't confuse great pass rush

02:50 necessarily with great defense,

02:51 because I think the 49ers have a great pass rush,

02:53 but that's secondary, also not very good.

02:56 I think there's a lot of holes there,

02:58 and we're going to find out just how good the 49ers are.

03:00 Are they the team that lost four straight

03:02 and then came back after the bye,

03:03 and started looking really good

03:05 against some lesser opponents?

03:06 And are they ready for the Philadelphia Eagles?

03:08 Or, you know, are they this other team

03:11 that we're going to find out this afternoon who they are?

03:13 And I'm fascinated to find out.
