Mexican President announces 20 percent increase in salaries for January

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, marking his 5th year in office, announced and increased the minimum wage by 20% across the country. teleSUR

00:04 will take effect as of January 1st, 2024.

00:07 During the press conference, the head of state assured that the increase was developed after

00:11 an agreement between the labor sector and the business sector of the country.

00:15 López Obrador assured that this measure means the fulfillment of one of his commitments,

00:19 since when he assumed the presidency, he promised that the minimum wage would be doubled.

00:29 If we take into account that in the free zone of the northern border the salary goes from

00:36 88 pesos in 2018 to 375 pesos a day as of January 1st, that is from 2,687 pesos a month

00:45 to 11,403 pesos a month.

00:50 This has not happened for at least 50 years, so that is why I say it is historic.
