Jennette McCurdy Recalls Pregnancy Scare While Trying to Stop Acne

00:10 Jeannette McCurdy recounting a terrifying pregnancy scare.

00:13 "It was a difficult reality to come to terms with."

00:16 The former actress opens up about the moment on her podcast, Hard Feelings, explaining

00:20 it happened while she was attempting to control her longstanding acne struggles with Accutane.

00:25 "You have to take a test to show that you know all the risks involved.

00:28 You have to sign a contract saying that you will not get pregnant.

00:32 Under no circumstances will you get pregnant while taking Accutane."

00:35 "And she goes, 'We got the results of your blood work, and there's a pregnancy.'

00:40 I was shocked.

00:42 I felt like I got the wind knocked out of me.

00:44 My head was spinning, like I was so dizzy."

00:46 Jeannette recalls how at the time, she couldn't grasp that she could be expecting a child.

00:50 "It was so terrifying.

00:52 And I'm recounting like recent sexual activities.

00:55 I was replaying everything and thinking like, 'How is this possible?

00:58 I don't know.

00:59 How could this be?'

01:00 And they're like, 'Is there a chance that you could be pregnant?'

01:03 And I'm like, 'What?

01:04 You said I was pregnant.

01:05 You said there was a pregnancy.

01:06 What do you mean, 'Is there a chance?'

01:07 It sounds like you know there's not just a chance, but there's certainty."

01:10 Turns out, it was a false positive.

01:12 "I'm not pregnant, and it is fine.

01:14 But that experience was so terrifying that I was like, 'I gotta get off this s---.

01:18 This is not for me.'"

01:19 While the pregnancy scare ended her Accutane journey entirely, Jeannette says it didn't

01:23 stop her from trying to find another solution.

01:26 "I'm 31, and I am still struggling, capital S struggling, with acne.

01:31 I've struggled with it my entire life, since I was maybe 15, 16.

01:35 This one's the hardest.

01:36 It's just like accepting it.

01:37 I have no wisdom.

01:38 I have no insight.

01:39 I just have heaps of insecurity about my acne."

01:43 The star admits she thought it might have stemmed from the thick, caked-on makeup she

01:47 wore while acting in her teen years.

01:49 "And this is iCarly!"

01:53 But after she left Hollywood in 2017, she says she saw no difference.

01:57 "It's an experience that you can only relate to if you've been in it."

02:01 Jeannette did share a glimmer of hope with her listeners, though, saying she'd finally

02:04 discovered something that worked, in an added bit at the end of the podcast.

02:08 "I first recorded this episode on acne a couple weeks ago, and I was really in the

02:13 hopelessness of it.

02:15 I'm re-recording it now because I have found something that has worked, and it is called

02:21 the miracle of benzoyl peroxide.

02:23 This has changed my skin in the course of a week.

02:25 I can't believe it."

02:27 Jeannette joins a growing list of celebs speaking out about their skin struggles.

02:30 "A lot of honesty there, for sure."

02:34 This one right here isn't.

02:35 I think they're formal, but I just cleaned my face."

02:47 My whole camera rule is basically pictures of my face like this.

02:50 I just want to talk about the fact that it's normal."

02:56 I see it every morning when I look in the mirror, every night before I go to bed.

03:01 If I can feel comfortable knowing that my acne might be acting up, I feel like if I

03:05 can just be myself on the internet, it's really about having confidence in myself,

03:11 and if that helps anyone else, that makes it 10 times better."
