00:00 Welcome to WatchMojo and today we're counting down our picks for the greatest video games
00:08 to be released over the past year.
00:16 Number 10.
00:17 Armored Corps VI - Fires of Rubicon
00:26 You can always count on FromSoft. Resurrecting their other longstanding franchise, Armored
00:30 Corps promised giant robots shooting the bejesus out of each other and will be damned if they
00:35 didn't deliver in spades.
00:41 The amount of customization, the thrill of the firefights, the absurd scope of its mechanical
00:46 bosses, it's certainly a trial by fire that will test your patience and willingness to
00:50 change loadouts on the fly.
00:52 But it's still a blast to play, once again proving that FromSoftware are so much more
00:56 than just all things Soulsborne.
01:02 Number 9.
01:03 Star Wars Jedi - Survivor
01:09 While it certainly had a rough start, there's no denying that Cal Kestis' second outing
01:13 was a worthy follow-up to Fallen Order's fantastic foundation.
01:17 With a narrative that dove into Cal's desperation against the Empire, a massive hub world, and
01:21 a total refinement of lightsaber combat, slicing through stormtroopers has never been so much
01:26 fun.
01:27 Where they go from here is up in the air, but we're all secretly hoping we'll get
01:30 the chance to further explore Cal's willingness to embrace the dark side moving forward.
01:35 Also rest in peace to Rick the door technician. What a legend.
01:44 Number 8.
01:45 Hi-Fi Rush
01:50 This thing came out of nowhere and blew everyone away on arrival.
01:54 One of the most successful shadow drops in gaming history, Hi-Fi Rush was the perfect
01:57 marriage of Devil May Cry and an anime rhythm game, one populated with banging tracks, a
02:02 slick animation design, and a hilarious cast that will keep you constantly entertained
02:07 as you riff your way through colorful stages.
02:16 Even if you're tone deaf and can't keep a beat to save your life, the fun Chai and
02:20 others bring to the table is too good to pass up.
02:26 Number 7.
02:27 Final Fantasy XVI
02:34 Yoshi P just does not miss.
02:37 Taking the beloved lore, giant monsters, and world-building the franchise is famous for,
02:41 and containing it within a framework akin to a song of ice and fire, the result turned
02:45 out to be a Final Fantasy like no other.
02:48 While a few found the switch to full-on action too much of a leap from the series' turn-based
02:52 roots, Clive's story of vengeance nonetheless reached new heights in terms of what a Final
02:56 Fantasy game can offer, whether they be quiet moments of character exploration or cinematic
03:01 boss battles that might just be some of modern gaming's best.
03:11 All the while, Soken continues to prove how much of a god he is with a soundtrack that
03:15 can proudly stand up there with Uematsu's classics.
03:26 Number 6.
03:27 Alan Wake 2
03:35 You think you know meta?
03:37 You think you know just how outside the box a game can be?
03:40 Well hold on to your britches because Sam Lake is here to show you that you've seen
03:43 nothing yet.
03:51 Not only is this sequel everything fans of the original could want in terms of its own
03:55 brand of survival horror, but Remedy have crafted a game that breaks down nearly every
03:59 convention when it comes to blending genres, reaching well past the fourth wall, and incorporated
04:04 live action in the wildest of ways.
04:06 It's one hell of a mind trip that needs to be experienced, if only for that dance
04:11 sequence.
04:18 Number 5.
04:19 Spider-Man 2
04:28 We really didn't think Insomniac could pull it off, but once again they outdid themselves
04:31 with what just might be the best Spider-Man to date.
04:34 Swinging across New York has never felt better, with traversal polished to perfection.
04:39 Same with combat, allowing for downright brutal combinations as both Spider-Men can utilize
04:44 their own unique movesets.
04:45 As for its story, pacing issues aside, the combination of Kraven's last hunt, the rise
04:49 of Venom, Peter's fracturing relationships, as well as Miles' identity crisis all lend
04:54 themselves to an explosion of emotional payoffs that had us reeling.
04:58 We can't wait for the closing chapter to round out the trilogy.
05:01 Let's just hope they scrap Miles' Adidas costume by that point.
05:10 Number 4.
05:11 Super Mario Bros. Wonder
05:20 For those wondering if Mario's 2D glory days were long behind him, have no fear because
05:24 this return to form is downright spectacular.
05:27 The creativity in each level is awe-inspiring, the amount of collectibles and challenges
05:31 will have you constantly diving back in, while the new Wonder Seed mechanic changes everything
05:35 up by altering the environment into a fever dream that Mario has to navigate to reach
05:40 the goal.
05:41 It's a brilliant platformer and potentially the start of the plumber's second renaissance
05:44 in the 2D scene.
05:54 Number 3.
05:55 Resident Evil 4
06:01 While the remake of Resident Evil 2 catapulted Capcom back on top, what they did with their
06:05 reimagining of the fourth mainline entry has cemented them as the king of modern gaming.
06:10 Taking such a pinnacle title and sprucing up the graphics is one thing, but to remake
06:14 it into one of the best survival horror games of the last century is something else.
06:18 Graphically, it's incredible.
06:22 The gameplay is beyond satisfying, while the new mechanics such as pairing seamlessly slide
06:26 into place.
06:27 And yes, Leon and his hair have never looked more dazzling.
06:31 It's everything you could want in an RE game and is an absolute must-play for hardcore
06:35 fans and newcomers alike.
06:43 Number 2.
06:44 The Legend of Zelda – Tears of the Kingdom
06:52 Breath of the Wild was a landmark event in gaming and one that sent Link and his franchise
06:56 soaring to new heights.
06:57 So how could a sequel match the impact of the original?
07:00 By doubling down on what made it great and adding features that we didn't know we needed.
07:04 Hyrule has never been so vast, with the sky islands and depths now adding verticality
07:09 to the exploration.
07:10 While the ability to fuse and create transportation, along with the means to torture Koroks, adds
07:15 another layer to player agency and imagination.
07:18 The sheer density of what is on offer here has made it the jewel in Nintendo's crown,
07:22 and that's no small feat.
07:31 Before we reveal our number one pick, here are a few honorable mentions.
07:35 Dredge
07:41 Sea of Stars
07:48 Street Fighter VI
07:54 Dave the Diver
08:00 Starfield

08:23 Number 1 – Baldur's Gate 3
08:33 Larian Studios didn't just create a great fantasy RPG, they created THE fantasy RPG.
08:39 Using the lore and tabletop system of Dungeons and Dragons as a bedrock, they crafted a game
08:43 so intricately layered that it's honestly mind-boggling.
08:46 The sheer amount of choices and customization on display here is ungodly, with branching
08:50 paths for literally every encounter and every class.
08:54 They are as numerous as they are intricate, rewarding, and painstakingly thought out.
09:05 Words truly can't do justice to what's on offer here.
09:08 The narrative will have you gripped, the characters and their respective performances are god-tier,
09:12 and above all else, it will have you wishing to dive even deeper into its beautifully macabre
09:17 world, either alone or with friends in co-op.
09:20 Now if you'll excuse us, we have to go start up our Dark Urge playthroughs.
