00:00 The National Assembly in South Africa has passed a motion of closing its
00:05 Israeli embassy in the country. It follows after the Economic Freedom
00:10 Fighters brought forward the motion last week in Parliament. Today, an overwhelming
00:15 majority of 248 voted in favour while 91 voted against it. Now the South African
00:23 government has tried to balance its position between Israel and the Palestinians
00:30 when it offered to mediate peace since the war started on 7th of October.
00:36 However, since then the government has withdrawn its own ambassador in Israel
00:42 and also called last week for a warrant of arrest of Prime Minister Benjamin
00:49 Netanyahu. Now the main opposition party, the DA, today argued that by voting in
00:57 favour of closing the embassy is contradicting the ANC stance to mediate
