00:00 It's beat podcast right here on the CLNS media network. It is Brian Hines from Pat's pulpit with Alex Barth from 98 5d sports hub
00:07 Hope everyone enjoyed their bi week. We didn't have to watch any Patriots football, which was maybe kind of nice for a change there
00:16 so
00:16 No game to obviously break down. So we will do a little Q&A again today. So
00:21 Anyone in the chat anything you want to talk about, you know again?
00:26 This week quarterbacks big picture anything drop that in the chat and we will get to it
00:31 But we can start with some quarterback talk because we did talk to Bill O'Brien and some of the Patriots coaches this morning
00:38 He was not ready to name a starting quarterback. He said Bill Belichick will do that at some point this week, but
00:45 Kind of made it sound like this is gonna be a competition and practice for this this starting job
00:51 And he said the last practice before the by Mac got first team reps, but Bailey and will agree or rotated in there. So
00:58 Seems like this one's I guess kind of heading for a competition when they get on the practice field tomorrow
01:04 I don't know if that's what you kind of took away from it or what other thoughts you had from what Billy Oh had to
01:10 Say yeah, it certainly made it feel that way. I would say on all fronts
01:14 Definitely feels like it's gonna be an open competition. I think Mac is involved
01:19 I he made it sound like they're not gonna take the job away from Mac for the sake of taking it away from which I
01:24 Know is what some people want, but this is kind of how it's been
01:28 This kind of how it you still hear me? Yeah, you're good. All right
01:32 This is kind of how it's been reported all year, right? They may have made a change sooner if
01:37 They felt like they had somebody to go to to make that change in Bailey's a P will Greer Malik Cunningham
01:45 Just haven't practiced at that level now part of it in O'Brien and Belichick have all talked about. This is there's only so many
01:52 windows for those guys to prove themselves
01:55 And that was probably helping Mac out the big picture now
01:59 Maybe they open some more of those windows up now
02:01 It was interesting and I kind of covered this all I wrote about everything O'Brien said on 98 by the sports of calm this morning
02:08 He talked about at that Wednesday practice
02:13 He said
02:15 Mac took the first team reps Bailey rotated in there will Greer rotated in there
02:19 Okay
02:20 Rotated in at first team reps or rotated in a quarterback because what we saw from the brief and he's obviously talking about the whole
02:27 Practice we only saw a small window
02:29 Did zappy and Greer rotate in with the first teamers?
02:32 So they did they just rotate in as the backups rotate in that's an important point of clarification. So I
02:40 Do still think they are giving Mac Jones a chance here, but I think it is open
02:44 I think it is open to all three of them to win
02:47 I I Cunningham just based on some of the stuff O'Brien said I feel like Cunningham as a quarterback maybe a little bit further away
02:53 Realistically if they thought there was a chance he was gonna be the starting quarterback. He'd be on the roster
02:58 He wouldn't be on the practice squad
03:00 But it does feel like it's it's an open competition mainly between Mac and zappy
03:06 I kind of throw will Greer in there just cuz again he's on the roster. We saw him in that rotation
03:10 But it really between Mac and zappy it feels like it's gonna be an open competition this week
03:14 so how do you think that ends I guess cuz
03:17 You know, my point was when he was saying that and then Tom Curran asked him later. Yeah, you know the last question he said
03:24 Like max probably he's winning these competitions in practice up to this point and you know
03:30 he's a first-round pick Bailey's a P's a fourth-round pick will Greer mid-round pick like
03:36 He might just keep winning these practice competitions
03:38 But then you know when it gets to Sunday and it's on the game field
03:42 It just you know kind of falls apart for him. So like do you think they can even if Mac is winning these?
03:47 Competitions in practice. They should just keep rolling him out there or is there just a point where?
03:53 Everything you do on Sunday kind of takes takes priority there and they have to make a switch to either
03:58 zap your Greer
04:01 That's what they seem to be hesitant about because that's essentially benching Mac Jones to bench Mac Jones
04:07 Yeah, and the other option isn't maybe necessarily better. You're just getting him out of the game
04:11 I know a lot of fans are at that point with Mac. I don't think that for better or worse. I don't think the team is
04:17 So I do think somebody's gonna have to out-compete him and it was an interesting question by Tom
04:22 By Tom Curran basically if Matt continues to be the best quarterback in practice, but it's not carrying over to games
04:28 But practice is the only thing that's deciding who starts not games
04:32 Doesn't that kind of create a feedback loop and it does and that might be part of the reason they're in the spot
04:37 They're in that they're putting so much weight on the practice reps and not on the game reps, which I always say, you know
04:42 We underestimate
04:44 What goes on at practice and I think we should pay more attention to it
04:47 but at a certain point the games are the games and
04:49 We've heard we you know
04:51 How many times we heard about guys were practice players who are great in practice and can't play in the games or vice versa
04:55 right Sunday players
04:57 At a certain point you need to give it a look but if it truly comes down to who is the better week of practice
05:01 Unless Bailey's happy really grilled during the bye week. Like I don't know
05:06 Why does it change now?
05:09 unless Mac Jones
05:11 Has such a loss of confidence because of what happened in Indianapolis. That would probably be what doesn't mean
05:16 Yep, but I mean Billy Oh was saying, you know, he's fixable
05:20 He said he was has played some good football at times this year. He's fixable. It doesn't believe in the yip. So
05:27 So hang on on that quote
05:29 That here's the full quote from O'Brien. I thought this was notable
05:31 I don't believe in yips or anything like that Mac has played well Mac will play well again
05:37 So Bill O'Brien seems to be of the belief that at some point in some way shape or form Mac Jones is gonna play again
05:44 Does that mean he starts this week?
05:46 Does it mean that that maybe he won't start this week to kind of let him get his mind, right?
05:50 And then he'll start again after that is O'Brien talking about way down the road maybe on another team like I don't know
05:56 But O'Brien seems to indicate there that the expectation is at some point Mac Jones will play again
06:01 whether it be for the Patriots not I don't know but
06:05 interesting little tidbit there, but
06:07 They will practice back on the practice field tomorrow, I believe they're Tuesday Wednesday Friday this week so typical Thanksgiving schedule
06:17 Yeah, so I don't know
06:18 You know, we usually don't get to see in season much besides just opening stretching
06:23 But you know we did get a little glimpse on Wednesday of that first
06:27 you know drill after where the starting quarterback goes over and takes snaps behind the offensive line and it was Mac so
06:33 Then but O'Brien talked about the other two guys rotated in but who was it with we don't know so we'll be there tomorrow
06:40 But what will we see?
06:42 We don't know but I don't know unless you had any other thoughts on on Billy Oh or any of the quarterback things we can
06:49 We can move on from that talk for now
06:52 I think that I so one other thing that was really interesting. I think we always knew this
06:57 But and this honestly isn't even about the quarterbacks. I put this in the context of something else. Oh Brian was asked
07:03 When the team will make the call he was actually asked about Malik Cunningham
07:06 And if Malik Cunningham has done enough in practice to garner some looks in this
07:10 And as part of the answer he said and this is a general belief
07:15 Quote, I really believe this and I think this is important to say. Oh, no, that's the wrong part of the quote. Sorry
07:21 Here it is I
07:23 Think assistant coaches make recommendations in head coaches make decisions
07:28 when asked about personnel, so
07:31 Remember way back when - Mario Douglas got benched and we were asking is it O'Brien that's holding him out
07:40 Is it bill does O'Brien want him out there and bill won't put him out there
07:43 I think we got the answer to that question
07:45 I think we got the answer some of the caisson booty stuff when bill
07:50 O'Brien came here in January even before that we were talking about
07:54 Who's the offense coordinator going to be?
07:57 We use that term head coach of the offense a lot and how autonomous
08:02 Would the offense be after Belichick was very involved last year and it struggled last year and it's clear
08:07 Oh Brian definitely has more control than Patricia did but
08:12 It's clear Belichick is still pulling some major strings
08:17 Whether it be again pop Douglas
08:20 Caisson booty I would guess Michael and when went right tackle is a Belichick thing because that carried over from last year
08:27 And you know some of the inverse stuff as well if I'm gonna attribute some I have to attribute all of it
08:34 That's a workload for to juice miss Schuster, etc
08:37 But it doesn't it feel like we kind of got an answer to all of that who is ultimately deciding this bizarre
08:43 player usage on the offense
08:46 Bill Belichick is giving O'Brien the players O'Brien's calling plays with the players bills allowing him to use that kind of feels like
08:52 Based off that quote
08:54 What this whole season has been?
08:56 Yep
08:58 Which is really what we didn't want to happen, right?
09:01 We said like right coach of the offense like let bill O'Brien handle that then bill Belichick can go back to defense
09:07 Excuse me in special teams, which special teams is a mess too. So and the reality is if bill O'Brien
09:15 Doesn't get that kind of autonomy
09:17 Nobody's going to who will maybe Josh McDaniels
09:21 Yeah, it's just if he doesn't trust if Belichick doesn't trust O'Brien at that level
09:27 He's not gonna trust anybody at that level because O'Brien's as qualified as anybody they're gonna get he said it today. He's like
09:33 Someone asked him if he wanted to be a head coach again down the line
09:36 But he said today right like I've handled every role in an organization
09:41 Basically that you could as a coach. So yeah, if he's not gonna get that that leadership of the offense
09:47 And I don't see anyone else getting that with bill Belichick still in the house. So
09:51 That was your quarterback update again. Maybe we'll see something at practice tomorrow. Maybe not but
09:56 we can start getting over to some Q&A's if you guys want to keep dropping some stuff in the chat and
10:03 while you do that, we will first hear from our
10:06 wonderful friends over at fan duel

10:48 fan do the official partner of the NFL
10:51 All right, all right started thoughts on Georgia tackle of Marius Mims as
11:01 a potential draft pick
11:04 So we've talked a lot about the guys at the top Joe alt Oluf a Shanu but then you have this second tier
11:10 Really a couple SEC guys and JC Latham in a Marius Mims are the next tackles up
11:15 So here them has he is he healthy now, I know he had like a back this week. He missed a couple weeks
11:21 He was back against Tennessee
11:23 So yeah, he's like I believe he's pretty inexperienced
11:27 he's only made like five or six starts before because George always has good tackles, but
11:33 yeah, I mean if you can get back in that I'm
11:35 Guessing is still gonna be a first round pick. But I mean he has some really good flashes
11:40 I think he's moves pretty well for like a 330 340 pound tackle. So
11:45 It might be one of those weird
11:49 Spots like you might not be able to get him unless you trade back or something
11:52 But I mean, I like the player from what I've seen. I'm just trying to pull up his exact numbers snaps here. But yeah
11:58 raw
12:00 raw player
12:02 Definitely has upside
12:04 He as the commenter points out here. He's only played right tackle
12:07 I
12:08 Hesitate to move a guy who's never played on the left side and put him on the left side the NFL especially in the Patriots
12:13 Kind of system for what it's worth. The same can be said about JC Latham boy. I really like as well
12:18 The tackle I'm kind of getting into is Patrick Paul from Houston
12:23 Day to a second round pick I think does plays the position the way the Patriots want it played and
12:31 That you know if you're gonna go Marvin Harrison or quarterback in round one
12:34 Patrick Paul is a guy on day two. I think
12:37 There's not a lot of depth in this tackle class. I think it drops off pretty good after Paul a
12:42 couple other guys in there but
12:45 On day two a guy who can potentially be day one starter for you. So I'm a fan of his
12:50 Alright another college football question
12:53 Asked Barth if he thinks chase Jay McCarthy should return to Michigan rather than declare for the draft
12:59 I I mean it would be a good idea
13:01 He's kind of got exposed here in these last two weeks. By the way, yes, no, Michigan no longer has the signals. I
13:07 Didn't really get to watch the Michigan game this weekend, but I heard it
13:12 Didn't look great for JJ McCarthy. He was throwing the ball in the team meetings like non-stop
13:17 He was what throwing the ball into team meetings non-stop
13:21 Maryland probably dropped two or three interceptions Wow, okay, so I
13:27 Mean he was they didn't let him throw or he didn't throw against Penn State and then I guess if he had a bad game
13:33 against Maryland, so
13:35 Ohio State next weekend. That's the test. I guess we'll really see get a good look at him
13:39 If he is a bad game against Ohio State
13:41 Like I I said a couple weeks ago
13:43 He need to have a good game against Penn State to even start to be considered in that first round conversation
13:48 I think he's a day to pure upside no floor player. He is a bad game against, Ohio State
13:53 I think you're talking about a guy that maybe doesn't go on the top 100
13:57 because they're just every instance against top defenses are gonna be X's for him and
14:03 At that point you go back to school because next year's class the two guys are supposed to headline next year's class
14:08 true Aller and
14:10 Com accord suck. They're both like bad like really bad. So
14:15 Shoulder will probably be in the class next year. It sounds like yours might go back but McCarthy with another year and
14:21 Blake Coram will be gone. They'll probably be throwing the ball a little more
14:24 I think it would do him really well if you can go in the top 100. He probably just comes out anyway, but
14:29 Yeah, I think that the ship has sailed on but somebody might still take him in the first round
14:33 I'd call that a bad pick and a monumental risk doesn't mean
14:36 He's got like Vikings written all over him. I don't just seems like a general Connell like jets. Yes
14:43 Yes, Oh Zach Wilson's not working. I know what we can do. We'll draft Zach Wilson
14:49 That's that
14:51 Any team any time any place except, you know, most NFL stadiums against most NFL teams got benched today
14:58 What could you get from Bill Belichick in a trade I
15:03 So, you know that one. I feel like a first-round pick is an unrealistic ask
15:09 I don't know that you're getting any more than that
15:11 but I I feel like that's realistic because
15:16 If you're trading Belichick the idea is like you're not letting him go to the open market
15:19 Somebody's buying their way to hire the greatest coach of all time without having to compete for method bargaining table at the negotiating table
15:25 That you should be able to get a first one
15:28 Yeah, I mean we said last week like Sean Payton was a first and a second for payment and a third I believe and but
15:36 He's 12 years younger. He's 59 or 60. I believe so. So had a lot of sass and he was out of the game for a year
15:42 Yeah, but I still think you should be able to get a first round pick for Bill
15:47 I think that would be a fair asking price. I
15:49 Would say first round pick as well
15:52 All right, if Caleb Williams and they're off the board. Who's the next best option?
15:57 So I guess there's two ways to answer this question at quarterback. I think it's clearly Michael Pennix
16:02 He's the one guy that hasn't kind of given into this quarterback nose dive
16:07 I know we didn't have a great week this week, but in tough conditions
16:10 He made that he made the gotta have a throws and that counts for something
16:13 After that, I got to come back on a take I had last week
16:16 Okay, probably Marvin Harrison jr. I know a lot of you guys were mad at me
16:20 Somebody called in the cat the Joe all take I don't think I presented that take great
16:24 The take probably didn't come across as what it was supposed to be
16:27 Which was basically it's a conversation and maybe it ends up being Marvin Harrison when we're all said and done
16:36 But I think when you talk about what at what the other options are tackle this offseason
16:41 That increases Joe alts value on its own, but it's still probably Marvin Harrison. Yeah, I
16:48 Think it's Marvin Harrison
16:51 quarterback
16:53 Probably panics still and I mean he talked about another guy who might go back
16:57 But Carson Beck from Georgia has he's really impressed me. He's been playing some really good football
17:03 He was had a few awesome really good throws against, Tennessee. So I
17:07 Think he's starting to work into that, you know
17:10 That maybe that next year after panics or someone in that range
17:14 But again, he could be someone who goes back and maybe is competing for you know
17:17 QB one worked that way up to like maybe a top five top ten pick next year
17:21 But that's just another name that I've been impressed with lately
17:24 Yeah, I wouldn't I wouldn't be surprised if he goes back but I'm with you
17:26 I think that he's a he's done real well for himself this year. He's throwing the ball very well
17:31 Oh good question
17:33 Would we bring back Jakob Johnson I would
17:37 Whether it's now or in the offseason the running game has not been the same since they stopped using a fullback
17:44 Helps in pass protection as well. You can help him pass protection
17:47 I would go back to the fullback more and more teams are doing it
17:49 Patriots are an OG fullback team
17:52 Jakob Johnson's a good player can help reestablish some of that championship culture. Yes, I would absolutely call him
18:00 Yep, I'm with you on that
18:02 All right
18:05 Chances Billy Oh draft the weapons. I just saw a question mark. I don't really understand what that means
18:13 Chances Billy Oh
18:17 Draft the weapons like are you putting it on Billy Oh saying he drafted the receivers cuz I think in the upcoming draft
18:25 I will move on to the next my apology if you want to
18:28 Answer it
18:29 He did he did note today that he worked out Malik on a hand
18:33 We kind of have a little bill so he was he was somewhat involved in some of that process
18:37 So who didn't I bring up getting cut? Oh probably Jakob Johnson. I brought up on Johnson
18:43 Shudder Sanders
18:45 If drafted do like him as QB 3
18:48 Yeah, he's probably in that same level as pennex, but I I would be shocked at this point if he comes out
18:53 I I really just as I'm doing a lot of my QB prep. I haven't been considering him
18:57 I I can go back to him if I need to like I feel comfortable enough placing him but I
19:01 I don't know about you Brian everything that's that we've said it's been said and everything we've heard out of Colorado like he's going back
19:08 Yeah, I mean his his dad is looks like he's pretty he believes that he's going back
19:15 So I I believe he'll be back to I'm with you
19:17 I haven't really been including him and a lot of that QB stuff, so I'm not banking on that, but I do like him
19:23 Yeah, he's probably be QB 3 QB 4 in there with pennex. This is an interesting one
19:27 This is I think something a lot of people are coming around to take Marvin Harrison jr
19:31 With that top three pick and then either trade up or if you get a first round pick from bill
19:35 Take Jaden Daniels Jaden Daniels continues to be
19:38 Very impressive and has probably worked his way into the first round of conversation
19:43 Yeah, I'd be shocked if he's not a first round. That's the most popular mock draft on Patriots Twitter
19:49 Yeah, now the Marvin Harris said it and Jaden Daniels at 35 or back in the first round and then you know what and then you
19:55 Get Patrick Paul and there you go
19:57 Yeah, good shape. You're cooking with gas there at the same time. I've seen like
20:01 Drake May and then
20:04 You know Roma doomsday later in the first or or one of those guys or Tez Walker and the third
20:11 I'll hit a bad draw this weekend
20:13 Any potential third down backs on the radar for the radar for this year's draft, uh, yeah
20:21 I'm sort of starting to dig through that. I can't give you a million names right now one guy
20:27 I do like that stood out to me. This is like a later
20:30 Later in the draft guy is a chiquavious marks from Mississippi State. I think he sees the field really well
20:36 I think he catches the ball really well
20:38 We'll get more Donovan Edwards another one for Michigan obviously Blake Coram
20:43 But you're talking about a much higher pick at that point
20:44 I wouldn't hate if they go veteran here
20:47 Just because one I already think they need a drafter running back because they're not history tells us they won't pay him on
20:51 Stevenson so that's a I'd like that to be a top 150 pick and just the complexity that role
20:57 You know if they can get a guy like Jerick McKinnon or somebody that but yeah
21:00 We will talk a lot about the third down backs in in the class once we get a little closer. I'm still I
21:07 I've never had a lock-in on quarterbacks this much. So I
21:11 like I'm starting to find those other guys and
21:13 Specifically this quarterbacks class how much of a roller coaster it's been
21:19 It's made it kind of tough. I'm a little behind honestly on some other positions, but
21:24 First mock draft for me. I don't know about you Brian. I always do one the day after the Super Bowl
21:32 That's always my first mock draft and we'll probably do one
21:35 Early February on this show at some point
21:39 we won't start doing them every week until after free agency because it's just
21:42 You don't know we don't we don't know enough to do them regularly before, you know changes all that but
21:48 I'll be ready come second week in February. I'll have everybody down
21:51 It's it's definitely a need like we can stress on that that they haven't replaced James way in that role
21:58 Then you mentioned a good point with you know, we're Mondra. He'll be in his last year. So
22:02 You know, Pierre Strahan is obviously gone. We haven't seen much of Kevin Harris
22:07 I think you know, they're all of a sudden gonna rely on him. So yeah, it's definitely a spot they could look to add
22:12 Already get get ready for Blake Coram right there like top
22:17 I brought that up. Yeah. Oh, yeah, I brought that up on catch 22 and Evan had a break
22:23 I don't know if you guys haven't heard that last catch 22 episodes about halfway in
22:28 somebody calls in and asks about other needs besides quarterback in the draft dimensions running back and Evan says you can do running back on
22:34 Your own time and then I will read him about Blake Coram for about five minutes
22:38 Should we hit a quick quick check-in with C key here and then we can keep going with the questions. Yeah, let's do it
22:47 All right. So now I gotta find this thing
22:49 Did well I look this up because I saw it in my last email. Did you see the Navy uniforms for Army Navy? I

25:24 I know there'll be a bigger one than this one between these two. Yeah third Super Bowl
25:28 All right back to the questions could Vrabel becoming the Patriots coach be a real option
25:34 Will Levis isn't catching on I
25:37 Does he want to go through a rebuild if he does would he rather do it here than there?
25:41 I think that's a valid question. I don't know the answer to it, but I think it's a valid question
25:44 Yeah
25:48 Oh, this is clarifying the earlier question should Bill O'Brien be the one drafting the way off this upcoming draft
25:58 Would that we're so far as it's a tough question answer if it's the same staff all around. Yes. He should have more input
26:04 If it's a different staff, I think you're bringing in a staff that specializes on the draft and
26:11 Accumulating on talent. So who knows if O'Brien will even be here at that point?
26:16 Yeah, I mean if it's this setup, right like he can't do much worse than what the guys have have picking got so
26:25 That was something we thought we all were gonna be excited for when he came here is you know
26:29 He's got the experience in the college game. He knows a lot of these guys now, so maybe that would help but I
26:34 Don't know how much say he had but it didn't look like it helped this year at least so all right
26:41 Dave Ziegler coming back. I
26:43 Don't see it. I know I that'd be a weird dynamic with grow
26:48 And we know Robert Kraft has talked a lot has lamented quite a bit on
26:55 The drafts from 2019 - you know, well Ziegler was here. I don't think that's a guy
27:01 He's rushing to bring back. All right, we got a quarterback ranking. I guess this is our thoughts
27:06 Caleb Williams Drake may Michael Penix. Yeah me so far Bo Nix
27:10 Jane Daniels got to be up there. Jane Daniels below JJ McCarthy and Brock Bowers. Who's a tight end?
27:19 I right now Oh Nix at war I have Caleb Williams and Drake May tier one
27:23 Michael Penix is like second tier quarterback mid first round fringe first round is Jane Daniels and
27:30 Then Bo Nix and JJ McCarthy after that as the all-floor no ceiling in the all-ceiling no floor guy
27:36 So that's my rankings right now subject to change
27:41 Yeah, I'm pretty much there with you on those tiers
27:46 Let's see. What else we got? We didn't talk about you Michael hasty
27:50 Actually, they did make a move since we were last on your thoughts on to Michael hasty
27:53 So I was first wondering if he was gonna take time on gum Rays spot or if there was gonna be a
28:02 Another move there maybe, you know free up a spot for someone like Connor McDermott to get to the active roster
28:07 But because he's a similar type of player as Montgomery, you know special teams. They haven't got any production out of that
28:15 Kick return unit with with Montgomery back there. So I was wondering if that was gonna be a swap
28:20 Montgomery is still here as we speak. So I don't know maybe
28:25 Another special teams guy to help turn that ship around here. That's what seems like that's kind of my hasty hasty talk
28:32 I like to see him put him in the backfield
28:34 Yeah, that that too that would be nice have we heard any rumors about Vinny Sun Seri being the successor not Mayo
28:42 I have not I would be very surprised if that happened. That would be one of the more surprising things they could do
28:47 Yeah
28:51 What do you you think the paths could get back in a trade for Mac Jones
28:57 Right now not much
29:01 Get back at day three pick. I think that's you're gonna get snow for him. All right, Trey Lance went for fourth
29:07 He's pretty broken too. So
29:09 Probably gonna some team will always
29:12 Some teams will always be convinced on a first-round talent to bring them and try to fight some
29:16 You got a fifth or sixth round pick for him something like that
29:19 How about this
29:23 How about we get weapons in line in this draft and free agency with Mac is QB if things don't work out
29:28 We'll have the offense we need for the next quarterback
29:30 Yeah
29:31 the only problem is this is what I was screaming all of last year and it didn't happen and I don't know that
29:38 You trust Belichick in this group to do it this time after not doing it last time
29:44 Especially because your resources are more limited now because it's one year closer to Mac Jones rookie contract being up
29:51 So I think the clock ran out on it was a good strategy last year
29:54 I think the clock ran out on it and the reality is that there's a new coach and GM
29:59 Generally, they want their own guy quarterback. Generally the coach GM combo. They want their quarterback their guy
30:06 even if there is a first-round pick in place, so
30:08 Last year I was with you. I was screaming it from the rooftops. Just go put the reason there was no great quarterbacks available
30:16 go put the resources elsewhere and
30:18 If it works out great, if not, the next offseason is one where you go get the quarterback
30:24 They didn't put any of the pieces in place. It hasn't worked out now. You got to start from scratch
30:28 Yeah, and I'm always in the belief that if you like say Caleb Williams
30:33 For example, if you think Caleb Williams is that guy like get your quarterback figure everything else out
30:38 Like the quarterback is the most important part, especially this year when you're gonna have 60 70 million dollars of cap space, right?
30:45 You can go add pieces weapons linemen to help him that way too. So, you know, it's not just the draft but
30:52 That's my type of thing
30:54 like if you can get the quarterback if you identify the quarterback you really like like go get that guy and
30:59 Figure it all out out later, but actually figure it out this time
31:03 Don't just do the last three years all over again with the new quarterback in the last three years
31:08 Somebody said do we know Belichick drafted Cole Strange attack on Thornton? This person says not bill picks in my opinion
31:14 Why are we not blaming grow more for poor draft picks?
31:17 I would be very surprised if the same person drafted Cole Strange attack on Thornton
31:21 Those two picks have two very different profiles. So has grow ducked some criticism. Yes
31:28 Cole Strange was a bill Belichick pick. I thoroughly believe that it's I Kwan Thornton might have been macro
31:32 But I I don't think the same person drafted both of them
31:36 Yeah, I mean
31:38 Patricia picks but that's a another story
31:41 They fit that system right that he wanted that speed and outside zone and all that good stuff
31:49 But uh, yeah, Cole Strange screams bill Belichick. Yeah
31:54 What are?
31:56 thoughts on Caleb Williams character concerns
31:59 So there's the
32:03 the crying a few weeks ago was the big one and then this past weekend he didn't speak to the media which
32:10 Brought up these character concerns again, I I don't know. I don't really care about it. I guess like
32:18 none of this is
32:21 Shine me away from drafting Caleb Williams right now if he's on I just so I think realistically how's he gonna handle this market?
32:28 Yeah, and they're crying stuff that I think I said we talked about it at the time didn't really bother me the week before people
32:34 Are saying he didn't care enough
32:36 They're not talking to the media. I mean like
32:38 Look, you know what questions are coming. Are you going back? Are you declaring for the track? You're going back to school
32:44 You're gonna play in the ballgame
32:46 Are you worried about your draft stock? You've known those questions are coming. You should be ready for them
32:51 If he does that in Boston, he's gonna get shredded for it
32:55 Yeah, and he has every right to do it, but you have to
33:01 Does do the players are drafting of the mental makeup for the city? Everybody gets annoyed with Mac and
33:08 A lot of fans get annoyed with Mac in the way he talks. I just I think that's him handling the media
33:13 He's very careful not to say anything definitive and I get that
33:16 I I think you're gonna run into similar issues with Caleb Williams
33:19 I just I wonder if he's there if he can handle as intensive a market as this
33:25 Yep, I'll say the one thing that does
33:29 Give me some worries. It's like the stuff with his dad, right like
33:34 Like I don't know just that stuff kind of annoys me when is you know dad or someone has to come out and start saying
33:41 stuff or
33:42 Or whatever but like the crying
33:45 Again, I didn't really care about it and then the media is whatever but yeah, if he does it here, it's uh,
33:51 It would be a big issue, but I'm still drafting them. I'm still drafting them
33:56 You like Malachi more day -
34:05 I
34:08 Gotta I gotta pull pull up my notes here
34:11 Yeah, I I just don't think they can afford to take a safety that high
34:14 I do I like he's a good player. I
34:17 The guy I really like for them and they're not gonna have a chance to draft him is
34:21 Cam Kitchens from Miami that guy because they need that true
34:27 deep
34:28 Freeze safety center field or whatever blah blah blah Malachi more plays
34:33 He's kind of a combo plays a lot in the box as well. I would kind of took like that Brian Brian
34:41 Yeah, Cam Kitchens is a center fielder and that
34:45 If they hadn't screwed up the offense like if Mac, you know
34:49 if Mac was playing well
34:51 and they hit on the juju signing and they were getting tackle play and like the offense was it was supposed to be if they'd
34:57 Signed a tackle in the offseason. I would be all on
35:01 Cam Kitchens being the guy obviously they have bigger needs on the offense side of the ball, but
35:06 Maybe maybe in four years when he's a free agent if they're still running the same defensive system
35:11 That's the guy they call but he'd be such a good fit
35:14 Yep
35:17 I'll bring this up because I've seen a few people say this that Mac Jones is
35:23 Interception against the Colts was tipped by the linebacker
35:26 No
35:29 Like I went back and looked at it again because someone mentioned it last week and I just don't see that at all
35:34 I think he just short on that. I don't know if you saw it differently, but I don't think that ball was tipped
35:40 I it might have been a little bit ultimately
35:44 It wasn't tipped enough there to stop it from getting to
35:49 The ball was never gonna get to get sticky one way or the other it might have been deflected a little bit
35:53 I I have kind of seen one angle where it looks like he just gets a finger on it, but I
35:58 Not to the point where it was gonna go another ten yards
36:02 It it might have been the difference between an interception and completion, but it still doesn't redeem that throw
36:09 it's like the
36:12 Sky cam wire. No that ball hit the wire. That one was different that ball hit the wire. It knocked it down
36:17 I stand by that one. That one was not max fault. That was ESPN screwing over the Patriots once again, I
36:23 Think it still would have been an interception the sky cam wire, but that like it definitely hit the wire
36:30 But I think it was still as I don't know I hit it hit the wire pretty solid
36:34 Yeah
36:37 Anything else you see there or
36:40 Before the season there were rumors bill Belichick was offering Mac Jones. I assume this means in trade
36:49 Do you think there's any truth in this bill wanted Mac gone to craft wanted to keep Mac?
36:54 I yeah, they probably were caught
36:56 Look either they were calling around on Mac Jones or they weren't but they wanted it public that they were I
37:01 Don't I think it was more just playing mind games with Mac than anything else and I've said this before and I'll say it again
37:08 You don't need to take your young quarterback and throw him through the blender to make sure he's tough enough
37:13 It's just not a good idea. I I get it
37:17 They don't want players to become complacent and all that fine
37:20 You don't need to torture the kid or any of the kids any of the rookies. It's not just quarterbacks
37:25 Maybe there was a time you could do that. That's not what the modern athlete is
37:29 I think this was just build playing some weirdo mind games that didn't work
37:33 Yep, they made it as difficult as possible for him and he didn't handle it well, but they made it they made it difficult
37:42 Assuming the
37:46 Patriots get one of the quarterbacks and then land another mid first round pick for trading bill Belichick. Who would they pick?
37:52 I think it's you know, one of those wide receivers, you know, Keon Coleman Roma dunes a or a tackle, right?
38:00 Like that that mid first if you get a quarterback at three or five or wherever that mid first round pick in that early second
38:07 round pick wide receiver tackle
38:09 Whatever the order wants to be like I think those are the two kind of clear-cut spots there and again
38:14 I wouldn't rule it out going the other way either where you take Marvin Harrison jr
38:17 And then you use that other pick on Jaden Daniels. We talked about that. I would roll that out either some people asking us
38:22 About Jane Daniels draft stock. Yeah, I mean he's in the first round conversation
38:25 I don't need to know that he's a first round lock yet. I think that
38:29 He's kind of running it up right now
38:32 When we get to the pre-draft process, I don't think the weigh-ins are gonna be good for him
38:37 The combine will see if he runs a good 40 the combine will help him
38:42 But again that weigh-in thing teams are gonna be worried about his durability that kind of thing. How well does he interview?
38:48 But he's definitely definitely definitely the first round conversation
38:52 He's QB three or four, you know
38:54 Penix is another guy that we're the combine will be big for him not even the on-field drills
38:59 Just how does he test medically?
39:01 but those are those two guys I think are pretty solidly locked in three and four and
39:06 Penix will be a first round pick. I feel comfortable saying that I'd say more likely than not
39:10 Daniels is a first round pick
39:14 But I could see something or like will let us last year. He goes like 33rd or 34th or something
39:19 He's technically not a first round pick even though he's still taking up
39:22 Let's see
39:29 Want to end with this one
39:34 Not really
39:36 Fields and Kyler Murray look good Sunday still think we can get Caleb if we finish at three or I'll add do you think we?
39:42 Can still finish in that top three, you know, yeah good day for for the tank for the tank yesterday with the
39:50 Tommy DeVito getting a big win and I know Kyler lost but he looked fairly well and fields looked fairly well
39:58 so maybe
39:59 Less teams up there needing a quarterback
40:01 But that would also open the possibility of a trade down for a team coming up and potentially jumping you
40:07 So yeah, I I think that
40:10 I still think it's off three picks totally on the
40:13 Possibility I've said in the past to that if they're picking fifth and they need a guy in the top three
40:20 They should be able to go up and get him
40:22 Go get I will say I thought this was going somewhere else. I'm out on the trade for Kyler Murray thing
40:27 Guy can't stay on the field if you're gonna trade the top three pick for Kyler Murray at that point just trapped Caleb Williams. I
40:36 Have no interest in Kyler Murray
40:40 Yeah, I mean I like Kyler, but I'm not trading a top three pick for him
40:45 I'd rather may or Caleb Williams, especially on the rookie contract
40:48 That's another big part of this and then you know, I don't know. I don't need Tyler Murray here. I like Kyler but
40:54 Probably wouldn't go that route but
40:58 We can wrap it up
41:01 This is a very good question. Actually, why are we assuming bill Belichick doesn't have a no trade clause in his contract? I
41:07 It's fair question. I don't the the thing about it is
41:11 Just bill want to be here if Roberts trying to kick him out the door
41:15 Does bill really want to be where he's not wanted and on top of that?
41:19 Even if he doesn't want to go
41:22 Does Robert create a situation where bill doesn't want to stay in essentially force him out says don't bring in another GM
41:29 Nope, you know, I'm gonna hire people on the coaching staff. I'm gonna dictate who you draft
41:35 Bill won't stay and deal with that. So he might have a no trade clause or something similar to that. I
41:43 Don't think it matters. I think at the end of the day if they're done with bill bill will be done with them
41:49 I don't think there's a scenario
41:51 Where the crafts say all right bill
41:54 Thanks for 23 great years
41:57 Best of luck on what's next and bill says I'm not going anywhere. I just I I don't that's not how bill operates
42:05 He's not gonna be somewhere where ownership doesn't believe in them
42:08 Yep, the GM one is probably the big part of that right? Like if you bring someone in over him that's picking his players
42:16 I'm sure he wouldn't be a fan of that and then might wave said no trade clause if he does
42:22 Have one of those in his contract
42:25 so yeah, you could you could make kind of an environment where he doesn't want to be and kind of avoid that no trade clause, but
42:32 It is a good question. It's a good point because we really don't know much about the lucrative multi-year extension unless except
42:39 it sounds like it expires after next season, so
42:42 That's kind of all we know about it, but we will wrap it up there and we will be back Friday
42:49 I believe because of the Thanksgiving schedule this weekend
42:52 So make sure you subscribe to the YouTube channel and put your notifications on so you do know when we go live on Friday
