00:02 Hey folks, we just got done riding
00:27 Suzuki's 2022 GSX-S1000.
00:31 This is a liter class size naked sport bike
00:34 from Suzuki Motors out of Hamamatsu, Japan.
00:38 Suzuki's been manufacturing this particular vehicle
00:41 since the 2016 model year.
00:44 Fast forward to today and this 2022 iteration
00:48 is the second generation GSX-S1000.
00:53 Now Suzuki's done a lot of very nice updates
00:56 to the 2022 model year, so let's get into it.
01:00 Beginning with the powertrain,
01:01 this GSX-S1000 continues to be powered
01:05 by Suzuki's tried and true 999CC inline four.
01:10 This engine shares very similar architecture
01:14 to the long stroke GSX-R1000 that was manufactured
01:18 for the 2005, 2006 model years.
01:21 Now, even though the architecture is similar,
01:25 the actual components, the hard parts,
01:27 the cases, the camshafts, they're all different.
01:31 Suzuki has made a number of nice durability enhancements,
01:35 fuel economy enhancements, and just overall improvements
01:38 to make this engine more smooth and more fun to ride.
01:43 Now, what I really like about this 999CC i4
01:46 is just how much torque it has.
01:48 Lug it low, rev it high,
01:50 this engine delivers a very pleasing amount
01:54 of acceleration force, and it gets even better
01:57 with the OE fitted electronic quick shifter
02:01 that allows you to just sear through
02:03 the six speed transmission
02:04 without having to work that clutch.
02:07 I love it.
02:08 I also like the ability to grab downshifts
02:12 going into corners without using the clutch.
02:14 That elevates vehicle stability,
02:16 especially when you're trying to get some in the corners,
02:19 and it's a very slick working quick shifter.
02:22 So good job, Suzuki.
02:23 You really nailed it on that.
02:25 Now, the frame and swing arm are also based
02:28 on Suzuki's older generation GSX-R1000,
02:32 though the manufactured parts also benefit
02:35 from the same durability improvements as the engine.
02:38 But the handling works really well on this motorcycle.
02:41 This bike is very easy to put where you want,
02:45 whether you ride on the street or track.
02:48 We actually lugged this motorcycle out
02:51 to the racing circuit for a SoCal Track Day,
02:55 it's open session track day event.
02:57 And I was really surprised at how well
03:00 this motorcycle works.
03:01 I love the upright ergonomics.
03:04 You can be very comfortable while you're melting knee pucks
03:09 at the racing track.
03:11 It handles really well, even though the suspension
03:13 is a little bit older in terms of its architecture,
03:16 it's not the latest and greatest suspension components
03:19 you see on other manufacturers,
03:21 leader and above class naked bikes.
03:25 The fact of the matter is the suspension
03:27 just works really well.
03:29 It goes over bumps very nicely.
03:31 It delivers good comfort on the street.
03:34 Yet, when you're leaning on the suspension
03:36 and you're giving her the beans on the shock,
03:38 giving her the beans on the fork with the brakes,
03:41 the chassis has a decent amount of support
03:44 to give you that fun, exciting feeling
03:47 that sport riding gives you.
03:49 I really like the improved ergonomics.
03:51 I like how the handlebar is a little wider.
03:54 It's a little bit more tall.
03:55 The seat is a little bit lower.
03:57 It's still very comfortable.
03:59 This is a very good motorcycle for someone
04:02 who's looking for a powerful bike
04:05 that they can ride around town,
04:07 ride in the canyons,
04:08 just have something that you can ride around
04:11 for general recreation.
04:13 This GSX-S1000, very good at that.
04:17 Triple disc hydraulic brakes, keep speed in check.
04:21 The brakes work really well on this bike.
04:24 No mutts, no fuss.
04:25 Yes, this bike doesn't benefit from cornering ABS.
04:29 It doesn't have an IMU
04:31 like some of its competitors in the class.
04:33 But honestly, that doesn't really limit
04:36 how hard I can ride this bike.
04:37 I can still have a really good time on this motorcycle.
04:42 Now, a nice big one-color digital display
04:46 that keeps tabs on the vehicle.
04:49 I like that the display looks different
04:52 as compared to other motorcycles.
04:53 Yeah, it's not color,
04:55 but that's not really a deal breaker to me.
04:57 What is, is just how much information
05:00 is wedged into the display.
05:02 It's really hard to read the speedometer,
05:04 the tachometer, the clock's too small.
05:06 There's a lot of features in this dash display,
05:08 but they're very hard to read because they're so tiny.
05:12 Suzuki would do really well
05:14 by investing in its user experience
05:17 and really getting that dash display redesigned
05:21 in terms of where you want the information.
05:23 It doesn't necessarily have to be color.
05:26 A lot of people would be like,
05:27 "Oh, it's not color, blah, blah, blah."
05:29 That doesn't bug me.
05:30 What bugs me is just the,
05:32 where everything's placed inside the display.
05:34 It definitely needs an overhaul.
05:38 Now, the original GSX-S1000,
05:41 I wasn't a big fan of the way that bike looked.
05:43 It was really round.
05:45 It looked really bulbous, almost like a big fat whale.
05:48 This motorcycle is much more sleek.
05:51 I like the flatter angular body panels.
05:54 The stacked LED headlamp looks very nice.
05:58 We rode this motorcycle after dark
06:00 and that stacked headlight does a better job
06:03 of illuminating the road in front of you,
06:06 much better than the halogen bulb setup on its predecessor.
06:10 Still, we've test ridden motorcycles with brighter LEDs.
06:15 It would be nice if the LED lights
06:18 were a little bit brighter on this motorcycle,
06:20 but I'm still happy that it has LED headlights
06:24 and turn signals.
06:26 Folks, what a hoot this 2022 Suzuki GSX-S1000 is
06:31 to ride on your favorite back road.
06:33 I love the upright ergonomics package on this bike.
06:38 Who knew you could be so comfortable
06:40 while carving corners and going fast?
06:44 It's a great way to experience the leader class torque
06:49 and horsepower of this Suzuki GSX-R based engine.
06:54 I love how playful the engine is,
06:57 the exhaust note and the air induction tone.
07:01 It's just a really fun motorcycle to ride in the canyons
07:05 that's pretty comfortable.
07:07 And most importantly, won't break the bank.
07:10 This 2022 GSX-S1000 rings in at $11,299.
07:15 Whoa, that represents substantial value in the class.
07:20 Suzuki's always known for giving its riders a lot of value,
07:25 but in today's world, $11,300
07:28 for a leader class naked bike, that's an absolute steal.
07:31 I mean, you have the tuning fork brands,
07:34 leader class naked bike approaching over $15,000
07:37 for 2022, 2023.
07:39 There's not a lot of motorcycles that you can buy brand new
07:43 for under 12 grand that have leader bike like capability,
07:47 but this GSX-S1000 has it.
07:51 If I was shopping for a new leader class bike,
07:55 I wouldn't hesitate to check out Suzuki's GSX-S1000.
08:00 Even though it doesn't have some of the fancy features
08:03 other motorcycles have in this category,
08:06 it's just plain works.
08:07 The engine has good power, has good character.
08:10 The suspension works well, ergonomics are nice.
08:13 It has very modern features with its LED lighting package,
08:18 its ride by wire throttle.
08:21 And if you're looking for a fun leader class naked bike,
08:25 that's not gonna break the bank.
08:27 This 2022 Suzuki GSX-S1000 is it.
08:33 All right, folks, that wraps up today's review
08:35 of Suzuki's leader class naked bike.
