Tesla is planning to double the number of components it imports from India according to the Indian trade minister Piyush Goyal. In September, Piyush said Tesla aimed to source components worth between $1.7-1.9 billion from India this year, up from $1 billion worth of components imported last year. During his visit, Piyush was supposed to discuss Tesla's plans to set up a factory in India to manufacture a $24,000 car locally, source more components from India, and establish local charging infrastructure. Tesla is looking to avoid relying heavily on China for rare earth materials needed in electric vehicle production by diversifying its supply chain, including increasing local sourcing in India.
