00:00 A living hell for teachers working and living in the Gaza Strip. Since Israel began its
00:04 relentless bombardment after Hamas's 7th October attack, schools inside the besieged enclave
00:09 have become makeshift refuge centres for thousands of displaced Palestinians. The Trade Union
00:14 Education International says so far at least 130 teachers have been killed in Israeli strikes.
00:22 "It is not true. I live in a school, I used to go to work and leave after 5 or 6 hours
00:29 of work and come back every day like this."
00:35 While Israeli bombs continue to fall outside, teachers are still trying to conduct lessons
00:40 inside.
00:41 "Today it has been 31 days and I am in school day and night. It is not only a refuge centre
00:50 for the displaced people of Gaza, but it is also a refuge centre for my students. I lost
00:57 many of my students who I used to teach in the Israeli bombings."
01:04 These are some of the students who are living at this school, trying to find moments of
01:13 respite and make sense of it all.
01:18 "I was wearing my school uniform and we were going to school. Then the Israeli bombs came
01:25 and instead of coming to school, we came to this school. Me and my family and my uncles."
01:32 "I used to go to school to learn and sit with the teacher and learn and learn. It is not
01:39 like now. I come to school as a refuge centre. There is no water or electricity and life
01:44 is very difficult."
01:45 More than two-thirds of Gaza's 2.3 million people have fled their homes since the war
01:50 began. According to the Palestinian Health Authority, more than 11,070 Palestinians,
01:55 66% of them women and minors, have been killed. Another 2,650 people have been reported missing.
