WeWork Woes Lead to Massive Losses for SoftBank, Records $6.2 Billion in Fiscal Q2
  • 6 months ago
SoftBank reported a net loss of 931.1 billion yen ($6.2 billion) for its fiscal second quarter ended September, compared to analyst expectations of a 114.1 billion yen loss. SoftBank recorded a 234.4 billion yen loss related to its investment and support of WeWork, which filed for bankruptcy this week. SoftBank's Vision Fund reported an investment gain of 21.3 billion yen for the quarter, driven by gains from selling shares in Arm to a subsidiary, which offset losses from declining valuations of other investments like SenseTime. SoftBank CFO said they believe the company has "hit a bottom" and is moving toward positive figures, and will focus on being a leader in the AI revolution.
