Michael Rooke, 61, lost his life during the second round of the South Australian Motor Racing Championships organized by IPRASA - Improved Production Racing Association of South Australia.

It happened around 15h30 on Saturday, 02 June 2012, at Mallala Motor Sport Park, when the black Honda Civic #33 of Michael Rooke went out of control and hit the wall on the kink on the back straight. It is believed that the experienced driver who was killed almost instantly, could have had a medical problem before the crash.

After the accident, the remaining events of the racing meeting were cancelled. This was reported to be the first fatality involving a car driver at Mallala since it was inaugurated in 1964.
