Michael Himes Fatal Crash @ Daytona 1997 (Aftermath)

Near the end of the 2-hour endurance race held at Daytona International Speedway, on Friday, 31 January 1997, Michael Himes lost control of his Honda Civic Del Sol SIwhile entering the bus stop chicane, spun and hit the wall. Severely injured, he was immediately taken by rescuers to Halifax Medical Center, where he passed away several hours later that same day.

The race was a supporting event to the classic 24-hour race "Rolex 24 at Daytona", first round of the 1997 IMSA Series, scheduled the following day.

Michael Himes, 42-year-old, was from Los Gatos, California.
