00:00 Now here to bring some perspective to the results tonight is our political
00:05 analyst, dr bob Holesworth. Bob, thanks for sticking around for this late
00:10 hour, but kind of a kind of an earthquake out there. What happened in
00:13 the General Assembly? Well, ultimately here, what we see is the democrats hold
00:18 on to the majority. They have at least 21 seats. There's one seat left to be
00:22 determined, have to see what happens there and they have a majority in the
00:26 House right now. So the minority leader Don Scott was correct in saying we
00:31 just took the 51st vote in Virginia Beach was finished and the democrats
00:36 took that seat. There's still two seats left in the House, so the democrats
00:41 could get 52 potentially 53. Um, and so the democrats have to think this is an
00:46 extraordinary evening for them that by and large, um, a defeat that really
00:52 take some of the luster I think off of Governor Yonk ins, you know, political
00:57 start. You know, tell us about that because we had heard so much about the
01:01 fact that he was making an effort. He had spent money from his packs on on
01:05 various races here on that he was kind of going all in on trying to get
01:10 unified Republican government to an in a sense to enhance his perhaps his
01:15 national well and also to enhance his capacity to have an agenda that was
01:20 going to be pursued successfully here in Virginia. So what occurred tonight
01:24 is the democrats now have control of both houses that Governor Yonk and in
01:29 Virginia will govern. You might say at the sufferance of the democrats, you're
01:33 going to have to find ways to find issues in which they can agree the hot
01:38 button litmus test issues that he might want to take on the national stage will
01:43 not be able to be pursued in Virginia because the democrats are going to be a
01:47 brick wall against those kind of issues. Bill was this foreseen or is this a
01:51 total shock? Do you think I think it was a surprise for the republicans. I think
01:55 they thought they would have momentum that Governor Yonk and did so well in
01:58 21. Here was a governor who went out and he went in 150% not only with money but
02:04 with his effort, he was out there campaigning all the time. He was on
02:07 television and at the end of the day, the democrats had a clearer message. It
02:12 was no abortion ban. Governor said he wanted this 15 week compromise that
02:19 this would be something that people could agree upon. The democrats said no
02:24 that the situation that we now have in Virginia is fine. We didn't need to sort
02:28 of go back and take away people's freedoms. It was a very simple message.
02:33 They used it all in all the competitive races and at the end of the day it was
02:37 clearer than the message that the republicans put forward. All right, well
02:41 thank you for those insights bob. We'll be talking about this for quite a
02:44 while. You can find all of our election coverage and the results as they
02:48 become finalized. There's still a few races left by going to WTVR dot com. We
02:53 of course will have the latest starting tomorrow morning at 4 30 a.m.
