00:00 Chris Kiseric in July about, you know, you're going to play your ones more.
00:03 And he's like, no, if I play Bosa 70 snaps a game, man, he ain't
00:07 going to be there in the playoffs.
00:08 Well, that's true.
00:09 Bosa's played over 60 snaps the last three weeks, last week against the Bengals.
00:14 He played 68 snaps.
00:17 The Niners only have five sacks in their last three games combined.
00:20 And they only threw eight games.
00:22 The non Bosa DNs have only five and a half.
00:24 So it's like almost like what Chris claimed you didn't want to do in July.
00:29 He is doing and like Drake Lynch told the Kawakami that Drake, who has only a 7%
00:36 pressure rate and not a single pressure since week four is nicked up, but
00:40 that he has to earn his snaps.
00:42 It really seems like their backup D line has, they've lost their quality depth.
00:47 And, you know, I don't know if chase young and Gregory are going to help.
00:51 We're going to find out, but it's like they like their ones, but
00:54 they don't love their backups.
00:56 Well, let's go through their backup D line.
00:58 You got Randy Gregory who hasn't done much.
01:00 You got Javon Kinlaw who hasn't done much.
01:03 Kevin Givens who's little small.
01:06 Um, hasn't done much.
01:07 Yeah.
01:09 And, uh, Cleveland fair.
01:10 Okay.
01:12 I mean, it's not great.
01:13 It's not great.
01:15 It's not a great, I mean, you really wouldn't want that entire line out there.
01:18 And then you got Drake Jackson is right.
01:19 Jackson going to be inactive the rest of the season.
01:20 I think he will be.
01:21 Wow.
01:22 Well, I'd like to know what his injury is.
01:25 Cause I mean, they may, he lynch minute sound like he's banged up.
01:28 I mean, he looked great against the Steelers in week one, but no
01:30 pressure since week four and it's week nine, you know, that's not good.
01:35 They put all their eggs in his basket.
01:37 They really sold themselves on him being something like, Oh, he worked out.
01:41 He put on weight.
01:42 Like, Hey, is he good though?
01:45 And they never really got an answer with that.
01:47 And in training camp, you were there.
01:48 People would make a big deal about him when he like broke up a pass or
01:51 was in coverage downfield.
01:53 And it's like, that's nice, man.
01:54 But what about.
01:55 Rushing the quarterback.
01:57 And, uh, I mean, I think he made it look, he made Colton McKibbets look
02:01 way better than Colton McKibbets is they had battles in training camp.
02:05 And I think that probably tells you everything you need to
02:07 know about Drake.
02:08 Sorry.
02:08 How just, are you, where are you with Bosa?
02:13 You know, cause Lynch was like, Hey man, if you, if you don't appreciate
02:18 what Nick's doing, you're not watching the film.
02:20 And I do watch the all 22 every week.
02:22 And I will say this, I see him draw, um, you know, he, he will
02:26 force opposing offensive lineman almost every single week to hold him.
02:30 Um, at least once or twice and draw penalties.
02:34 So that's good, but he's not getting home, but the coverage is soft.
02:38 So it's like, it's, it's like, how much is him?
02:41 If I see Nick Bosa, do you say he's having a great year, good year,
02:46 mediocre year, disappointing year.
02:48 Where are you with Bosa?
02:50 I think it's a disappointing year by his standards, considering what he's
02:54 been able to do in the NFL and the amount of money, the 49ers
02:56 are committed to giving him.
02:57 I think it's definitely disappointing by his standards.
02:59 And it's like, you could say that it's because of the soft
03:02 coverage and Steve Wilks fault.
03:03 But then he had no sacks in the playoffs last year.
03:06 Like this was going back to last year.
03:08 And Chris Kiserik said that thing about, Oh, I want to try to keep him fresh.
03:11 I don't know, man.
03:12 I mean, he's played a lot of football.
03:13 It seems like he just has hit it a wall or something and
03:18 it goes back to last season.
03:19 So I don't want to just blame it all on Steve Wilks.
03:21 He's still a good player.
03:22 Obviously he's the best player in the Niners D line.
03:24 One of the best players on the team, but a defensive lineman getting $35
03:28 million a year who for about two seasons was registering a sack of game.
03:33 And now it's been like 13 games.
03:36 He's only had four sacks in the last 13.
03:37 I, I don't know.
03:39 And then you look at Joey with the charges.
03:41 It's like, man, he's not the player he used to be.
03:44 Is that what, is that where Nick's going?
03:45 I feel like Joey Bosa was dominant and all of a sudden he wasn't.
03:48 He became expensive and good.
03:51 But not nearly worth what they're paying him.
03:53 And I wonder, like, is that where Nick's going?
03:54 Because every week I think we expect, okay, this is the week he's got a backup
03:58 offensive tackle, he can really tee off and it doesn't really happen.
04:01 So I don't know.
04:02 You tell me.
04:02 To me, he looks a little bit more yoked up, a little stiffer.
04:08 Um, I still see him getting some good things done, but it's just like, it's,
04:13 it seems like the coverage, if you're going to have these almost getting there,
04:18 you got to tighten your coverage a little bit.
04:19 And if you tighten your coverage a little bit, I mean, I'd like to see the Niners,
04:23 at least in one game, maybe this week have real tight coverage, but get burned
04:28 over the top because right now they're not getting burned over the top, but
04:33 they're playing such soft coverage that their team quarterbacks are getting
04:38 into rhythms against them and cousins and, and, and Burrow the last two weeks
04:43 have completed like 82% of their passes against this defense.
04:47 Do you remember what Wilk said?
04:48 First thing, when he came into the team, he said, my, you know, they're like,
04:51 you're taking over the number one defense in the league.
04:54 How could you possibly make it better?
04:55 What do you want to do to put your imprint on this defense?
04:58 And he was real clear.
04:58 Like, I want to give up fewer explosive plays because if you remember last year,
05:01 one of the things is defense kind of struggled with was long passes.
05:04 Ambry Thomas, Diamandor, Lenore getting Moss at the catch point.
05:07 They gave up a lot of long passes for a number one defense.
05:10 And I think Wilks felt got to stop that.
05:12 So all of a sudden you get in this two high, two high, two high, two high
05:16 two high off zone coverage.
05:19 That's way more conservative than what D'Amico was doing last year.
05:23 And I think that's, I feel like Steve Wilks has really overcompensated.
05:28 It's okay.
05:29 So you haven't given up that many long passes this year, but you gave
05:32 up 19 completions in a row, right?
05:35 In a half to come on, you make an adjustment quick and you can't let that happen.
05:39 You can't win that way.
05:40 Can't win that way.
05:41 Oh, I know.
05:42 Take something away.
05:44 Seriously challenge these guys at the line of scrimmage a little bit more.
05:48 And, um, and, and, and, and, you know, I guess the game plan or at least the
05:54 ideology is that teams, if you play, if you've got a good four man rush, if you
05:59 play a loose coverage, um, and you keep everything in front of you that over the
06:04 court, if you make them pin them deep inside their own 20, make them drive,
06:09 you know, 85, 85 yards against your, your defense, that somewhere along
06:13 the line, they'll make a mistake.
06:15 But guess what's happened the last couple of weeks since he rolls in, they make no
06:18 mistakes, they have no penalties.
06:20 Uh, Minnesota makes no mistakes.
06:22 Exactly.
06:23 What do you think's going to happen when you face these quarterbacks?
06:25 They're good.
06:26 They're going to carve you.
06:27 And I, and then, and then, and then all of a sudden you're in the car view and
06:31 then you look tired at the end of games and you can't stop the run and you start
06:35 to give away the run and then all of a sudden the whole thing falls apart.
06:37 I, let me ask you this.
06:39 I talked to you real quick.
06:41 Real quick.
06:41 Yeah.
06:42 Remember what, why, remember why the Niners signed D'Amico signed
06:45 Cheverius Ward.
06:46 Okay.
06:47 That was D'Amico second year as a DC and his whole thing, he talked about it.
06:50 I want the quarterback to have to take a hitch.
06:53 If we can make him hitch one time, meaning he drops back, it's not there.
06:58 And he has to hitch one more time and wait, we're going to sack them.
07:02 We want that extra beat because we want to hit the quarterback, not
07:05 just pressure the quarterback.
07:06 So that's why you brought in a press corner and Cheverius Ward, a press corner.
07:11 Steve Wilkes come, it comes in and looks at Cheverius where I said, no, I'm going
07:13 to play you nine yards off the ball.
07:14 Why?
07:15 That's not how he got paid.
07:17 He doesn't look comfortable in that, you know, and people think, oh, well, it's
07:22 easier.
07:22 It's actually very difficult for these corners to understand exactly the timing
07:26 to when, when to play off coverage.
07:30 It's like asking me Richard Sherman, like, okay, he's not Richard Sherman.
07:33 He's Cheverius worked.
07:34 It's difficult and it's not necessarily a smooth transition.
