To continue the Halloween theme, here is a period ghost story, set in 1928, where Aidan Quinn plays a professor who specializes in investigating and disproving paranormal activities. He is called upon to investigate a series of hauntings at Edbrook House, where he meets the unusual Mariell family. But while there he begins to be haunted by a tragedy from his childhood and visions of his dead sister (Victoria Shalet), and begins to realize that all is not right there...

This is from one of my video tapes and stars Aidan Quinn, Kate Beckinsale, Anthony Andrews, Anna Massey, Alex Lowe, John Gielgud, Geraldine Somerville, Victoria Shalet and Liz Smith. It was directed by Lewis Gilbert from the novel by James Herbert, and differs in some respects from the book. Released in cinemas on October 27th 1995, it was one of Kate Beckinsale's early film roles. It also features Victoria Shalet, here with red hair playing Aidan Quinn's sister, which casting directors kept when they cast her in her breakthrough role in kids TV series The Queen's Nose later that year. Just to warn viewers that there are sex scenes and nudity in this film - oh, and ghosts!
