00:03 The hit reality television show, Impractical Jokers,
00:09 became an absolute sensation worldwide.
00:12 The four high school friends who play practical jokes
00:17 on each other for bragging rights
00:19 has taken audiences by storm.
00:21 The show is ready to go into its 10th season
00:26 without one of its most important cast members,
00:29 Joe Gatto.
00:30 But this isn't the first time there
00:34 have been new frontiers for the Impractical Jokers.
00:37 There once was a failed spin-off of the show which
00:43 saw the four friends, James Murray, Sal Vulcano, Brian
00:47 Quinn, and Joe Gatto, a.k.a.
00:50 the Tenderloins, try their hand at sketch comedy.
00:53 Before the show, the four were accomplished comedians
00:59 in their own right, and sketch comedy
01:01 was one of their specialties.
01:03 And so it was only a matter of time
01:08 before these television stars decided
01:10 to go back to their comedy roots with Jokers Wild.
01:13 The show consisted of the four guys acting out
01:19 pre-written sketches and comedy bits
01:21 that showed them acting instead of reacting for a change.
01:28 This show followed the comedic styling of other sketch comedy
01:31 shows, like Chappelle's Show or Key and Peele, to name a few.
01:36 However, it never hit the heights of Impractical Jokers,
01:42 and it wasn't long before the network
01:44 had a tough choice to make.
01:46 Jokers Wild was a blink-and-you-missed-it series
01:52 that ran on True TV from September to October of 2014,
01:56 around the same time that season four of Impractical Jokers
02:00 was hitting the airwaves.
02:01 There wasn't anything concrete laid out for Jokers Wild
02:07 to draw in the general public, which
02:09 made its ultimate failure somewhat easier to swallow.
02:12 For instance, there were originally
02:17 going to be at least six episodes of the spinoff
02:19 produced, with more likely on the way
02:22 if it became even half as much of a hit as the main show.
02:25 However, this didn't come to pass,
02:30 with only four of these planned episodes ever being filmed.
02:34 On top of that, the skits within Jokers Wild
02:40 largely weren't all that good, comparing to the laughs
02:43 audiences got with Impractical Jokers.
02:45 Despite the tenderloins excelling
02:51 at this type of humor in the past,
02:53 the sketches seen on the show were rarely that funny,
02:56 especially for fans more used to the humor
02:58 of Impractical Jokers.
02:59 While the tenderloins are hilarious,
03:05 their attempt to introduce fans to their original type
03:08 of comedy didn't have enough connection to what made
03:11 them famous in the first place.
03:12 And so the show never worked out.
03:18 But luckily for us, we'll always have the Impractical Jokers.
