00:00 Let's talk about Dallas Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey. He's one field goal away from making NFL history.
00:07 Do you think that he was the best acquisition for the Cowboys this offseason?
00:12 We didn't make much of it at the time.
00:14 No? Because it was Cooks and Gilmore and everybody else.
00:18 And even though obviously the kicker's going to have more impact than Trey Lance,
00:23 the Trey Lance trade for a third string quarterback gains more headlines than,
00:27 wait a minute now, we're getting a USFL soccer player from McKinney?
00:34 It's worked out brilliantly and I will go back.
00:37 He's stone cold.
00:38 Absolutely. And he's not a bragging kind of guy.
00:41 Most of the kickers that come through here have a very similar personality.
00:45 And maybe that's something, it's a very low key, I'll talk to the media if I have to kind of guy.
00:52 I spoke with him after the win against the Rams in the locker room.
00:55 And he says, "Hey, do you have a bunch of texts that you, now that you tied the NFL record,
01:01 your family texts you?" He goes, "Oh no, my family has a group chat about me, but I'm not in it."
01:07 And I said, "Does that group chat have a name? That's kind of funny."
01:10 He goes, "Well actually, I don't know. He's not in it."
01:13 That's a good point.
01:16 He doesn't really talk much. Dak Prescott has said that a lot.
01:19 He says, "I've never really heard him talk all that much."
01:23 Dak also says he's one of my best friends.
01:26 Maybe Dak is just saying that to be supportive of his kicker. That surprises me.
01:30 It doesn't surprise you.
01:31 Just because they don't practice in the same area.
01:33 Right. Maybe they, I mean, Dak lives right there and Brandon's from right there.
01:39 So maybe, he also though, while he's not a bragging guy, he was asked about his confidence level.
01:45 I think you were there for that too.
01:47 On a scale of 1 to 10, he says, "10."
01:51 And the Cowboys feel the same way about Brandon Aubrey.
01:54 This will be a little bit different environment.
01:58 Although, San Francisco had some of these same overtones, if you will.
02:04 But, yeah, ever since that very first game, when he did miss an extra point,
02:08 and the Joneses and the Sweets are going, "Oh no!"
02:12 And then everything has worked out in that game and since.
02:15 The Cowboys front office, coaching staff, and the locker room also saying, "Oh yes."
02:19 And some of it is also about kicking.
02:22 Because it's great to kick a 58-yard field goal.
02:25 It's very cool.
02:27 It gives you an incredible momentum and turn of the field.
02:32 But it's not greater than missing a 38-yard field goal.
02:36 The missing of the 38-yard field goal can suck the life out of your sideline.
02:42 And that was one of the issues, obviously, that they dealt with previously.
02:45 So far, so good on this guy, who, by the way, is a pupil of Chris Bono,
02:50 a former Cowboy kicker who coached him in the USFL,
02:53 who told me about his mindset and about his calm, cool demeanor.
02:58 And if Chris Bono says, "This guy's got the head for it, and we can see he's got the leg for it,"
03:04 that's probably good enough for me.
03:06 Yeah, for sure.
