PAS Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden questions why Chinese vernacular schoolchildren are allowed to wear costumes with replicas of weapons while Hamas-inspired costumes worn during Palestine Solidarity Week are considered extreme.

At the media room in the Parliament building on Wednesday (Nov 1), the Alor Setar MP also called out Cabinet member Nga Kor Ming, and demanded the Local Government Development Minister explain himself as he claimed that Nga’s statement was against Malaysia’s stance of not recognising Hamas as terrorists, unlike several other countries.

00:00 The purpose of this media conference is to inform the media
00:04 I have sent a question to the Minister of Education to ask for an explanation from the Minister
00:17 about the issue that has been a question from netizens for the past week
00:25 about the guidance to hold the solidarity campaign at school
00:32 The question is on issue number 6
00:36 which is to make the campaign balanced
00:43 not only to one side
00:48 In this week of Palestine solidarity, our stance is clear
00:55 to support and support the struggle of the people of Palestine
00:59 while the other side is Israel, Palestine against Israel
01:04 If the image is to be balanced
01:08 should the school or students also show the image of Zionist Israel?
01:15 Is that what it means?
01:18 I think the purpose of this week of Palestine solidarity is to support Palestine
01:24 not to support both sides
01:27 If we support both sides, there is no meaning and no firm stance from us
01:32 That's one
01:34 I hope the Minister will choose my question to be answered in tomorrow's MQT
01:45 The second is related to the same thing
01:49 I also found in social media that the question raised by the owner of the account named Ahmad Haris
02:01 He claimed that the school has received instructions
02:06 that the teacher is not allowed to recite the Quran
02:12 and not allowed to wear the flag of Palestine
02:16 This is his claim
02:18 One instruction was issued via WhatsApp
02:21 and he took it from Facebook
02:27 Mr. Muhammad Fadli Saleh
02:30 I just quote what they wrote
02:34 and I also want to ask for an explanation from the Minister
02:38 Is it true that this is not allowed in the Palestine solidarity campaign?
02:43 I ask the Minister to answer tomorrow
02:46 The third and last one is related to the same issue
02:51 There was a statement from a leader of the DAP, the Minister of Communication, KPKT
03:05 He brought this picture and gave a message
03:10 "School is not a place for conflict, understanding of extremism and violence"
03:16 This picture was posted
03:18 Does it refer to this clothing?
03:23 If it refers to the clothing that shows violence
03:27 What about the other events that took place at the school?
03:32 The SJKC Gunung Hijau
03:34 The cosplay clothing
03:36 The clothes like this
03:38 There are other clothes that are shown a lot
03:42 In SJKC Johor Jaya
03:44 There are replicas of weapons
03:49 and war-like clothing
03:52 This is a replica of a hero from Japan, a samurai
03:58 We never question this and never refer to violence
04:04 But when he started
04:07 When we wear clothes like the clothes of the Hamas fighters
04:13 He said that it was violence
04:16 What did he want to say?
04:19 Did he want to say that the Hamas fighters are violent?
04:23 He was confused by what the Minister said in his answer yesterday
04:28 The Malaysian government said that Hamas is not a violent group
04:33 So why did the Minister say that Hamas is not a violent group?
04:37 But the Minister in the same cabinet said that wearing clothes like Hamas is a violence
04:43 Why are there two different statements?
04:45 Is the government not in agreement on this issue?
04:48 I believe that teachers teach their students to wear costumes or cosplay like this
04:57 Including on Independence Day
05:00 Clothes like the army, holding weapons, toys
05:03 Not to show violence
05:05 But to show love to the country
05:08 Showing sympathy to the oppressed Palestinians
05:13 Because Palestine is not a religious issue
05:15 It is not a religious issue
05:17 It is a human issue
05:19 There are also Christians in Gaza who also oppose the action of Israel
05:25 They are not Muslims
05:27 So I think this kind of understanding should be corrected
05:31 As a minister who sits in the cabinet
05:34 You cannot give a wrong understanding and wrong perception to the people
05:39 And what's more, the understanding is contrary to the government's education
05:44 According to the statement of the Minister
05:46 So I state here
05:48 I ask that all of this can be explained in the public hearing tomorrow
05:53 At the MQT session by the Minister of Education
05:56 Even if he chooses my question to answer
06:00 Thank you
06:02 (The meeting is adjourned)
06:05 (The meeting is adjourned)
