Jeff Clinton's Fatal Crash @ Homestead 2002 (Aftermath)

During the second practice session for the Nextel 250, second round of the 2002 Rolex - Grand American Road Racing Championship, held on Friday, 01 March of that year on the Homestead-Miami Speedway road course, Jeff Clinton's Archangel Motorsport #21 Lola B2K/40 -Nissan went out of control entering Turn 1, spun off course and flipped several times. The roll bar of the car failed and Clinton died at the scene from massive head injuries.

An experienced driver, during his career Jeff Clinton won two SCCA championships, the GT-5 Championship in 1990 and the S2000 title in 2000. After his fatal crash, the Archangel team withdrew from the race; qualifying sessions were cancelled and the field formed the grid according to the championship positions at the time.
