02:19 Let's talk about your incredible year.
02:21 You've obviously been super busy.
02:23 I mean, from Fashion Week to all the festivals,
02:26 everything that you've been doing.
02:27 So what sticks out to you?
02:28 What's been incredible to you in your year?
02:30 - Oh, wow, this year.
02:31 I think I enjoy Fashion Week.
02:34 They work so many months
02:35 and then it's done in like 10, 15 minutes.
02:37 And I'm just like, whoa.
02:39 Like, so I was really inspired.
02:42 I was just blessed to be invited.
02:45 - And talking about being front row
02:46 to one of the biggest things ever,
02:48 like King Charles Coronation.
02:49 Like, what was that like?
02:51 - Oh my goodness.
02:52 I was nervous.
02:56 Oh my goodness.
02:57 And I was like, okay, yeah, it's a coronation.
02:59 Then I heard it's about how many people watching?
03:01 Like 80 million or something?
03:03 - Way too many.
03:04 - I said, what?
03:06 But then just before I stepped on stage,
03:08 I was like, I'm representing not only Africa,
03:11 African woman, like,
03:13 and it was so important for me to like, just,
03:17 I knew it was a really, really important moment
03:19 and that just changed everything for me.
03:21 And I, yeah, I went out there
03:23 and I'm like, I'm gonna kill this.
03:25 - Yeah, and you did.
03:25 And I love your perspective as you speak on that,
03:27 because I'm sure you saw, like,
03:29 there was all this conversation online, of course,
03:31 then they're like, she's performing "Keys to the Kingdom"
03:33 and there's this monarchy, colonization.
03:36 You know how Black Twitter ate that up.
03:38 How did you feel reading that
03:39 after having had such an incredible performance?
03:42 ♪ You're the key to the kingdom ♪
03:44 ♪ You're the key to the kingdom ♪
03:47 - First of all, "Keys to the Kingdom"
03:48 was a song I wrote or co-wrote for my son.
03:51 It was to celebrate men,
03:53 because I feel like there was a lot of,
03:55 there's a lot of songs out there,
03:56 there's like, bashing the Black man,
03:58 and you know, that kind of thing.
03:59 So I wanted a song that was celebrating, you know,
04:03 the Black man and saying,
04:05 you have the keys to the kingdom.
04:06 And they chose that song.
04:08 But the conversation, I knew was gonna happen.
04:13 And for me, I thought,
04:14 if we didn't have anybody representing us on that stage,
04:19 everyone would be like, you know,
04:21 they would criticize the monarch and say,
04:24 you know, you don't have any artists
04:27 supporting the Commonwealth.
04:29 So for me, I thought it was a positive step
04:31 in the right direction.
04:33 And I didn't mind being the scapegoat
04:36 because I knew that I was going to
04:38 deliver a great performance.
04:39 So you can say anything you want,
04:42 but I knew that you cannot criticize the performance.
04:44 And I wanted to represent and be like
04:47 every other Black girl, you know,
04:49 Black artists watching that, you know,
04:51 like I wanted them to feel included.
