An off-duty pilot named Joseph David Emerson admitted to taking psychedelic mushrooms two days before a flight and attempted to disrupt the engines mid-flight but was unsuccessful. He has been charged with 83 counts of attempted murder and endangering an aircraft. Emerson claimed he thought he was dreaming and wanted to wake up. He had been experiencing a nervous breakdown, lack of sleep, dehydration, and fatigue. Emerson is now facing federal charges and has been placed on suicide watch. The remaining charges will be presented to a grand jury.
