00:34 We remember all people who suffer and all people who have served and are serving this day.
00:41 May we spend time here and truly pause to remember the brave souls who have served this country in the cause of peace.

01:14 Good morning, I'm Jacqueline McLaren, the Lord Provost of Glasgow.
01:17 I'm here in my capacity as the Lord Lieutenant of Glasgow. This is the start of our Remember Days that we remember leading up to Remembrance Sunday.
01:27 This is the first day of the Garden of Remembrance.
01:30 Everyone in the city comes together to remember our people who have died in wars and conflicts.
01:38 It's important for Glasgow to remember that because there are so many Glaswegians who have lost their lives defending this nation.

02:09 Dr Claire Armstrong, Chief Executive, Legion Scotland. We're here today in George Square in Glasgow.
02:16 We've officially dedicated and opened the Garden of Remembrance.
02:20 It's a hugely important, big part of the annual calendar around remembrance for people here.
02:25 Where we come, pay our respects, remember the fallen and think about those still currently serving as well.
02:31 We've got all the crosses behind us, wreaths have been laid today.
02:34 People will come over the next couple of weeks between now and Remembrance Sunday to pay their respects and lay their own tokens as well.
02:41 So please do come along and visit the gardens while they're open between now and Remembrance Sunday.
02:46 Who is here today and in what capacity?
02:48 Representatives from all over. Lord Provost, National President for Poppy Scotland and Legion Scotland.
02:54 Representatives of both organisations, veterans associations, other veterans charities.
02:59 It's been a fantastic turnout today, many wreaths laid on behalf of those that we're remembering.
03:05 I think it's hugely important to keep it in the public consciousness.
03:08 I mean, war and conflict is something that we're talking about a lot more now.
03:12 We're hearing it in the news every day with everything that's going on around the world.
03:16 So we should never underestimate how important it is to stop and remember.
03:20 And that's why having a garden such as this in the centre of Glasgow is a really good focal point for the local people and the community.
03:27 Grant us peace in our time and a longing for the day when every person of every language, race and nationality will live in peace.
03:40 This we ask in the name of God, whom Christians call Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.
