00:02 Kat Von D has found a dramatic way to start fresh.
00:09 The tattoo artist revealed she is covering
00:11 many of her extensive tattoos with a massive blackout,
00:15 inking much of her body in a process that she said
00:18 has taken more than a dozen sessions over 40 hours,
00:21 and she's not finished yet.
00:24 Kat documented her progress in an Instagram video
00:27 posted on October 19th, and shared an up-close look
00:30 at the widespread ink across her torso,
00:32 which she explained is only about 80% complete.
00:36 The former LA Ink star addressed questions and concerns
00:40 in a lengthy caption, explaining that she wasn't
00:42 a good candidate for laser removal of this magnitude,
00:46 and sharing what inspired her to take on
00:48 such a major ordeal in the first place, writing in part,
00:51 "I had many tattoos that represented a part of my life
00:54 "that no longer aligns with who I am today.
00:57 "Some people are fine with keeping these types
00:59 "of landmarks and time on them.
01:01 "I personally grew tired of waking up to them
01:03 "and seeing those constant reminders
01:05 "every time I looked in a mirror."
01:08 Kat added that she knows the look is not for everyone,
01:11 but that she personally loves the aesthetic
01:13 and finds it to be a satisfying clean slate.
01:16 The 41-year-old's transformation comes just more
01:19 than a year after she announced that she was distancing
01:21 herself from supernatural practices,
01:24 and in early October, she shared an intimate peek
01:27 inside a spiritual milestone, posting an Instagram video
01:30 of herself being baptized during a church service
01:33 in front of family and friends.
01:35 Kat followed up with a candid selfie clip,
01:37 thanking those who reached out with loving support
01:39 for her decision, and sharing how grateful she is
01:42 for the positivity, despite the many others
01:45 weighing in with criticism.
01:47 - It's been pretty awesome.
01:48 I'm actually shocked, because I was expecting
01:51 to get so much hate for it.
01:55 You know, I know that a majority of my fans
01:58 and my followers are not Christian,
02:00 and so, like, I know that it's a turnoff to a lot of people,
02:06 and, you know, everybody's had, like, their own experiences
02:09 in their life that might trigger certain things,
02:14 and, you know, and I know that everybody's
02:16 on their own journey, and it's not for everybody,
02:18 but this is where I'm at,
02:21 and to me, my baptism was a, you know,
02:26 a public demonstration of where I stand with my faith,
02:29 and basically letting people know that I'm not ashamed.
