Warrnambool Wildlife Encounters welcomes Elsa – a joey with albinism

00:00 So her parents actually only came to us this year in their normal colour, the normal colour.

00:06 And we did get informed that they might carry that trait.

00:09 So when we saw little Elsa popping out of the pouch we were very excited that she carried

00:15 on that genetic.

00:16 It's a recessive gene so it does get passed down through breeding.

00:20 But yeah, so she's a very cute little white lady for Christmas as well.

00:25 It's a white Christmas here at Warrnambool Wildlife Encounters.

00:28 It does affect their eyesight so they've got very poor eyesight and they do suffer a lot

00:33 more from things like skin cancer, sunburn and all that sort of stuff.

00:37 And obviously out in the wild far more susceptible to predation as well.

00:41 But in captivity she'll be just fine.

00:43 She's a wallaby isn't she?

00:45 She's a tamar wallaby.

00:46 Okay, right.

00:47 Yeah, so they're one of the smallest species of wallaby in Australia.

00:50 So she'll only be very small when she's grown up which is why she's so small now.

00:55 So they're about maybe 25-30cm full grown.

00:58 So very small, cute little animals.

01:00 She's absolutely charging along.

01:02 She loves her bottles and she's just full of sass.

01:06 Smaller they are the bigger attitude they've got.
