00:18 With dozens of games across the franchise, Zelda fans have been able to craft some pretty

00:23 impressive mods and romhacks over the years.

00:49 As expected, Tears of the Kingdom has exploded with all kinds of mods since it launched back

00:53 in May 2023.

00:56 Of course, there are plenty of mods that change the music, Link's appearance, weapons, the

01:01 usual stuff.

01:02 However, we can't get over this mod that grants Link a pair of anti-gravity pants.

01:09 Now you can explore Hyrule with near complete freedom and almost no consequences.

01:15 Given the insane amount of physics featured in the game, this mod only adds an extra layer

01:20 of fun to the combat and exploration.

01:24 Zelda of the Wild.

01:31 Fair warning, we came across a massive assortment of Breath of the Wild mods, so don't be

01:36 surprised if you see several on this list.

01:39 The first we would like to recognize is one where Zelda replaces Link as the player character.

01:45 This turns Breath of the Wild into one hell of a fever dream.

01:49 Is Zelda teaming up with a clone of herself?

01:52 Or an identical twin?

01:53 Or is there some weird Zelda-ception happening where her vision of Hyrule is in danger and

01:58 Calamity Ganon is really some blight on her mental being that could turn her into an evil

02:02 ruler or worse, drive her insane and be thrown into the dungeon?

02:06 Nah, it's just a mod.

02:09 It can't get that deep.

02:11 Can it?

02:15 Wind Waker Randomizer.

02:23 Wind Waker is so beloved by many that it is hard to imagine ever wanting to change anything

02:28 about it, even if it means installing a mod.

02:31 However, if you're one of those players that wants to be kept on their toes and also

02:35 maybe test your knowledge of the game inside and out, you can nab this mod.

02:41 As the name implies, this will change the position of every single item in the game.

02:47 And just to make sure your runs are playable, the randomizer starts you off in the open

02:51 world immediately and most of the cutscenes have been removed.

02:55 Hope you can find what you need quickly!

03:03 Hinox Shrek The Hinox is such a grotesque beast for a

03:11 Zelda enemy that it's easy to imagine just about anything else replacing it and retaining

03:16 that terrifying presence.

03:19 So why not replace it with, say, Shrek?

03:27 Hey, no game can be modded without throwing Shrek somewhere.

03:30 Besides, he actually fits the role of the Hinox quite well.

03:34 Just look at that vicious stance, that garish face.

03:38 It's like he's always been in the game and we just never knew about it.

03:48 Zelda 64 Dawn and Dusk There are some really cool Zelda ROM hacks

04:00 to go dig up.

04:01 Of them all, Dawn and Dusk is absolutely at the top of our list for Ocarina of Time mods.

04:07 Basically, this is the Ocarina of Time for 64DD that we never got, and yes, you can play

04:14 it on an actual 64DD if you have one and can get this on a cartridge.

04:20 Link is now the descendant of a priestess who fought against a dark force many ages

04:25 ago.

04:26 That beast rises to try and take over Duskside once more.

04:30 With new locations and new takes on classic Zelda tropes, every Zelda fan needs to check

04:36 this one out.

04:44 Thomas the Tank Engine Because of course.

04:52 The fun thing about Thomas mods is that you never know what role the really useful engine

04:57 will play.

04:58 Bosses, NPCs, a template for your custom character's face, he's been through it all.

05:04 This time, Link will play Mr. Conductor as Thomas replaces your horse as your mount.

05:11 Now you can explore Hyrule without the need for rails and deliver a real pain train to

05:16 whatever dumb bokoblins are unaware of your presence.

05:22 Linkle of the Wild It's a real shame that Linkle has been left

05:30 stranded in the first Hyrule Warriors.

05:33 Never to be featured in another Zelda game ever again, let alone mentioned.

05:38 Gentlemen and ladies, we can bring her back.

05:42 We can make things right once again.

05:44 We have the technology.

05:46 Yes, this mod just replaces Link with his female counterpart, but now that you have

05:52 this mod, the world is right again.

05:54 You weren't expecting a special mechanic to be added in, were you?

05:57 It's really just a model swap.

06:00 It's a great model swap, though.

06:08 Survival of the Wild Well, how about this for special mechanics?

06:16 You can make Breath of the Wild realistic in the most annoying ways possible.

06:21 As the name implies, Survival of the Wild adds in a bunch of survival mechanics, thus

06:26 forcing you to play the game in a vastly different way.

06:30 The lighting is now more drastic to reflect a more realistic daytime and nighttime cycle,

06:35 the weapon durability is decreased drastically, environments have been strengthened, fast

06:40 travel is disabled, weather is more brutal, and Link now has a hunger meter.

06:45 Like we said, it's annoyingly realistic, but we kinda dig it.

06:50 Legend of Waaagh!

06:57 Don't worry, this is the last Breath of the Wild mod before we end the video.

07:01 Thing is that Link's not fit to be the true hero of Hyrule.

07:05 Hot take, we know, but it's the truth.

07:08 This mod replaces him with Waluigi.

07:11 Finally, Hyrule is getting not the hero it needs, but the hero it rightfully deserves.

07:17 In all seriousness, it is just a cool mod that adds more absurdity than Breath of the

07:20 Wild asks for, and Waluigi's uncanny presence, I gotta say, makes the most dramatic cutscenes

07:28 in this game pure comedy gold.

07:39 Dark Hyrule Fantasy.

07:46 If there was any Zelda romhack we could play again and again, it is definitely this one.

07:51 Dark Hyrule Fantasy is a unique and original romhack that gives Ocarina of Time more of

07:57 a gothic aesthetic to its environments and characters.

08:00 Fair warning, it is still in development, but from what we've seen of the town and

08:04 the first dungeon, it's worth keeping your eye on this one.

08:08 This is my personal favorite.
