UN Condemns Forced Evacuation in Gaza
"The order to evacuate 1.1 million people from northern Gaza defies the rules of war and basic humanity," said United Nations aid chief Martin Griffiths.
He emphasized that forcing scared and traumatized civilians, including women and children, to move from one densely populated area to another without humanitarian support is dangerous and outrageous.
Without safe passage and access to basic services, this mass displacement will have catastrophic humanitarian consequences and long-term implications.
Israel has ordered a "complete siege" of crowded Gaza, halting supplies of electricity, food, water, and fuel, while bombarding the densely populated territory in retaliation for Hamas' terror attacks.
This intense bombardment has reduced roads and homes to rubble, leaving nowhere safe for the people of Gaza to go.
Prior to the evacuation warning, more than 400,000 Palestinians had already been internally displaced.
At least 1,900 Palestinians, including journalists, medics, and other civilians, have been killed by near-constant shelling in Gaza, according to the Health Ministry.
The UN strongly condemns this forced evacuation, calling it outrageous and a violation of the rules of war and basic humanity.
The situation in Gaza is dire, and immediate action is needed to protect the lives and well-being of the innocent civilians caught in the crossfire.
