Inverness residents 'heartbroken' due to severe flooding causing horrendous damage to their homes

Many Inverness residents have been left 'heartbroken' after their homes were severely flooded and have been consecutively for the past 17 years.

00:12 And it's obviously only going to get worse with the winter coming.

00:14 Yeah, and with the climate as well, it seems to be happening more regularly.

00:19 This has been going on for about 17 years now.

00:21 Particularly bad this last couple of years.

00:23 As we hear about flooding, Trusa and I and Sean are just like, oh no, you know.

00:28 I was just speaking to the guys out there and I was like, look, I requested sandbags

00:31 last week, said can I get sandbags to put at my garage?

00:36 So if it does get to that point, you know, I've got some kind of protection.

00:41 And I think because of the climate changing, the weather seems to be more sporadic.

00:47 It just does it.

00:48 You never know really when you're going to get these floods.

00:51 And when they happen, they seem to be much worse than they've ever been.

00:55 So it's really crucial that we get it sorted.

00:58 It's so destroying because, you know, you try to keep it nice and you know, we've been

01:03 here as I say for 17 years.

01:04 We're not intending to leave or move.

01:06 We love the house.

01:07 But it is, it's so destroying.

01:09 And when it gets to that stage of damage, our son who uses the basement, I mean, he

01:15 can't use it because we're, you know, we fear for his health, for damp and, you know, mould

01:20 and things like that.

01:21 It has to be dealt with now.

01:23 We can't go through it more than this.

01:27 It's too damaging now and we're just, we're going to have to fight back.

01:30 Inside of Hayley's house, there's actually a river coming down there from the other street

01:36 up the hill.

01:37 And that's after the water has dispensed from our street.

01:46 I think the whole system needs to be dug up and a replacement drainage system put in place

01:51 because clearly that isn't fit for purpose.

01:53 For 17 years it's not done the job.

01:56 Ampteen people have been out over the years trying to fix the problem.

02:01 So I think the only solution is to dig it all up and start from scratch.
