00:00 Hello guys, you know the full form of TV is technical, but today it's time to change that
00:09 full form.
00:10 It will be technical, but let's make it grand.
00:13 Not just grand, let's make it gargantuan.
00:16 Friends, today I have brought you to the Mundra Seaport.
00:25 This is a complete ecosystem for logistics.
00:30 Let me tell you, this is bigger than Agra.
00:34 Today, as the day is very special, why not take you around and show you how this port
00:40 works.
00:41 Welcome to the special episode.
00:44 Let's start.
00:45 Let's start.
00:46 Let's start.
00:47 Let's go.
01:15 Today, if you hear about Mundra Port, it's definitely India's largest.
01:29 But let me tell you, the idea started way back in 1993.
01:34 At that time, the idea was to create such a kind of setup and completely transform the
01:41 way logistics are being done.
01:45 On 7th of October, 1998, exactly 25 years ago, it was a vessel carrying edible oil,
01:53 the MT Alpha 2 from Singapore.
01:55 It was the first vessel that got serviced here at the Mundra Port.
01:59 If one would see at the high tide, one would wonder that how we are going to build the
02:05 port.
02:06 The port backup area, it was obviously arid, harsh, and it was very, very difficult to
02:13 even approach.
02:14 We had to construct almost 12, 13 kilometer road just to get in to the location.
02:21 That was one of the most difficult tasks.
02:23 It took almost two and a half, three years to approach the actual location where the
02:29 port was to be built.
02:31 Before that, in fact, we used to come in a small boat, in the whole Mundra Port, we would
02:35 get in, take a small boat, which would come in that depth of water, come on Navinal Island,
02:42 and then do a lot of service, get lost also sometimes there during high tide.
02:47 Those were the days.
02:49 But of course, the situation and the land situation, very different.
03:00 In fact, this right now is India's largest commercial port.
03:05 By the volume of cargo handled, by the size of vessel that can service and handle, by
03:11 the volume of cargo stored in warehouses, by the diversity of any types of goods it
03:17 can service, and also by the turnaround time and efficiency.
03:20 And the simple reason for that is, this is an all-weather port.
03:25 Which simply means that 24 hours a year, 365 days of work is done here.
03:31 There is no downtime.
03:33 And that's the reason that this strategically placed port can operate on such a large scale.
03:41 And I'm sure this contributes a lot to the Indian logistical system.
03:45 We welcomed the first commercial vessel at Mundra Port in 1998.
03:51 In the 25 years that have passed, Mundra has become a transformed area.
03:58 And I'm not just talking about the port, but about the whole of Mundra.
04:04 From a barren, marshy wasteland, Mundra has turned into a massive industrial hub, driving
04:11 social, economic growth and change at an incredible pace and at an incredible scale.
04:19 Not just in the neighborhood, but across the nation.
04:23 In just 25 years, Mundra Port has contributed around 2 lakh crores rupees, or an incredible
04:32 25 billion dollars to the state and national exchequer.
04:37 From a handful of tons in 1998, Mundra grew to become India's first port to handle 100
04:46 million tons in 2014.
04:49 And incidentally, also became India's largest port in terms of cargo handling in the same year.
04:58 Today, 11% of India's maritime cargo and 33% of India's container traffic moves through Mundra Port.
05:11 Located on the northern shores of the Gulf of Kutch in Gujarat, Mundra Port is India's
05:17 largest private port.
05:19 Mundra Port's future plans are quite ambitious, but even in its present state, it holds ever-growing
05:25 significance in the realm of maritime trade.
05:28 Because, spread across a staggering 135 km square, Mundra Port's colossal cargo bays
05:35 can handle massive amounts of ships and their cargoes.
05:39 Some of these bays are 2.5 km long.
05:43 This maritime hub has not only repositioned India's shipping industry, this port has also
05:49 helped develop a special economic zone in the surrounding area.
05:53 This SEZ has transformed Mundra the Sleeping Village into Mundra the Business Magnet.
06:00 Today, Mundra has transformed into a developing region with economic opportunities and employment
06:05 prospects.
06:07 Mundra Port's banyan-like growth is helping the shrubbery that surrounds it.
06:12 So, you're talking about 2007.
06:15 At that time, the population of this place was only 7000.
06:19 Meaning, it was a small village.
06:21 Yes.
06:22 And today, the population has increased to 1 lakh.
06:25 You're talking about 4-5 years ago, the cost of a flat here, 2 BHK, 3 BHK, was 7000-9000.
06:34 Today, even after paying 30,000 rupees, houses are not being sold.
06:37 I met a local employee named Abdul.
06:42 Yes.
06:43 He's 21 years old. He's been working here for 3 years.
06:46 So, that clearly shows that directly or indirectly, he's having a huge impact on life.
06:51 Absolutely.
06:52 So, if you talk about the employee, they consider the company to be theirs.
06:58 This is their own company.
06:59 You meet anyone in the whole ecosystem, they'll think it's their company.
07:03 And this is the growth that connects them.
07:06 As we are celebrating Mundra's journey of the past 25 years,
07:14 we humbly believe that this journey has just begun.
07:18 Mundra has demonstrated that India can build world-class infrastructure.
07:24 However, we believe that Mundra will be the showcase of young India's aspiration.
07:31 Mundra's next 25 years will be to transform into a world-class port city.
07:38 This all-round expansion will be driven through innovation, digital transformation, and through sustainable development.
07:48 This journey will create a global benchmark for a port city development.
07:55 We have set an ambitious target to become carbon neutral by 2025 and also achieve net zero emission by 2040.
08:05 Mundra is a showcase of world-class infrastructure.
08:09 And anyone who sees Mundra will agree that it is a very visible tribute to the vision and determination of pioneering entrepreneur like Gautam Adani,
08:21 who refuses to stop thinking big and thinking long-term.
08:26 Mundra is a powerhouse in maritime commerce, which is fueling India's growing economic engine
08:33 and helping foster global trade with its sheer scale, robust infrastructure, and operational efficiency.
08:40 Mundra Port has become a major part of India's global trade contribution.
08:44 Mundra Port's Marine Control Centre is a state-of-the-art facility that uses all possible latest technologies
08:51 to monitor every minute action that happens within the port's ecosystem.
08:55 This means that high-precision sensors, positioning and guidance systems are used here
09:02 so that it is exactly known where a ship is on waters.
09:05 And using highly-automized and heavily-regulated machinery to handle cargo
09:10 while keeping time, safety standards in check, and ensuring that cargo is in tip-top shape.
09:20 We have been in this business for 25 years.
09:23 And now, we are saying that one of our industries is over.
09:26 In the next 25 years, 30 years, 50 years, in the next 5 to 7 years,
09:31 we will have so many industries like solar manufacturing.
09:35 So, the capacity of 4 gigawatts is now expanding to 10 gigawatts.
09:39 It's all backward integration from polysilicon, ingot, cell module.
09:44 You take care of the whole sustainability.
09:46 That is all for the solar manufacturing.
09:49 And as soon as the solar panel is built, there is a place called Khawra, which is 200 km from here.
09:55 Our biggest RE park is coming there. The biggest in the world.
09:59 The total capacity is 30 gigawatts.
10:02 Out of that, 50 gigawatts is ours.
10:06 That is a hybrid park, solar and wind both.
10:09 So, you will see that not only is this a port, but with the port, an industry area is developing.
10:15 After this, we are getting copper smelters, petrochemical complex, steel plants.
10:20 In the future, air cargo complex will start here.
10:23 Sub-commercial flights will start.
10:25 These 25 years have turned out so well, but the next potential is,
10:30 if you see, we have 40,000 acres of land.
10:33 Still, only 40-50% we have utilized.
10:35 And 50% is gold mines.
10:38 You will not find such infrastructure anywhere in the world.
10:41 If you see, we are directly connected from Mundra Port, 130 countries.
10:45 We have direct connection with 130 countries.
10:48 We have sea connectivity, road connectivity, airplane connectivity, and railway connectivity.
10:54 All the four connectivities are there.
10:56 So, if you look at the future, there is no such potential anywhere.
11:00 Mundra Port is truly set apart by its strategic geophysical location.
11:07 It is situated near a major sea route and because of this, like a nodal point,
11:12 it connects India with Middle East Gulf countries, Europe, and African subcontinents with remarkable efficiency.
11:18 This connectivity offers the benefit of time and cost cutting to shipping companies.
11:23 And it's not just its proximity to international waters that makes Mundra Port indispensable.
11:28 Mundra enjoys seamless connectivity even within India's own boundaries.
11:35 Friends, let me tell you something very interesting.
11:38 See, what is the main function of this port?
11:42 It is a setup to move the goods in and out of the country.
11:46 But the biggest question is, we have stored the goods coming in from outside.
11:52 The goods that we have to export to the rest of the country are also here.
11:56 But how do we ensure that this has a good connectivity in terms of rail network and road network,
12:02 ensuring that this port is connected to the rest of the country?
12:06 And for this, I am not sure how exactly you can see in this frame, but now you can see for sure that behind me,
12:13 there is a train moving right behind me.
12:16 There is a train moving, you know.
12:18 So, Mundra Port has a rail network of 210 kilometers,
12:24 ensuring that the connectivity is amazing in terms of moving the goods in and out of the country.
12:30 By the way, we have access to Delhi by train.
12:35 If we talk about the road network, all the roads are mostly of 4 to 6 lanes,
12:40 ensuring that the cargo movement, for example, there is a trailer right there,
12:44 when it leaves from here, with the least amount of traffic, with the least amount of congestion,
12:49 it reaches the destination as fast as possible.
12:52 Because I think these are some essential things for a port to operate.
12:56 Otherwise, just think of the situation that a lot of goods have come from outside,
13:00 and the goods have accumulated, which are not able to move so fast.
13:03 Or let's say you have lots of goods to export, but they are not able to reach the port on time.
13:07 I think this connectivity ensures the smooth operation of this port.
13:11 For a fact, there is an air strip right next to it, in Mundra, which now serves small aircrafts.
13:18 And in future, the plan is to expand that,
13:20 ensuring rail, road and air connectivity in the best possible way for this location.
13:27 And if we had to develop in a port, the speed that we wanted to develop in,
13:32 without railway it was not possible.
13:34 Because with road connectivity, whatever that we had,
13:38 very limited cargo would have been either brought or evacuated.
13:41 So if we had to do the right volume, as what our aspiration was,
13:45 without railway there is no port.
13:48 So we decided that we will build it.
13:50 Now that's the kind of challenge that Gautam Bhai takes.
13:54 I don't think by then anybody would have thought port connectivity
13:58 to be done by a private sector in railway.
14:01 It was almost 65-70 km connectivity that we had to do right up to Adipur from Mundra.
14:07 And there were hundreds of people, land was involved, government land, private land,
14:14 people whose records we would not be able to trace.
14:17 So we had to go all out to find out whose land belonged to whom.
14:22 Many people were hundreds, thousands of kilometers away,
14:26 we could not even find, so find the government records of the land.
14:30 We did all that and then from there we started designing.
14:34 India with its long and open coastline needs more ports.
14:38 Our experience in designing and building Mundra's industrial ecosystem
14:44 has helped us to look ahead and devise effective strategies
14:49 to transform existing and future ports into economic powerhouses for India.
14:56 We are continuously exploring strategic locations
14:59 and assessing the feasibility to establish another port like Mundra.
15:05 [Music]
15:16 You can further observe this operational efficiency and accuracy in Roro Terminal.
15:21 The 2009 automobile Roll-On and Roll-Off Terminal has become a benchmark
15:26 in how automobiles are shipped from and to India.
15:30 Whether it is mass-produced cars made in Delhi NCR
15:33 or luxurious vehicles assembled in the factories of Pune and Chennai,
15:37 this terminal has been quickly rising as the proven gateway for automobile companies
15:41 receiving their raw materials and sending their finished products out.
15:45 The ease with which it handles lakhs of cars,
15:48 the same ease and precision with which it can handle buses and trucks.
15:53 Mundra Port's cutting-edge floating pontoon and link span is a technological marvel
15:59 that enables uninterrupted, round-the-clock Roro operations,
16:03 thereby ensuring that vehicles flow effortlessly in and out of the port.
16:07 So much attention has been given to customer service in the details
16:11 that the port also features a top-notch washing facility
16:14 to cater to the parking and cleaning needs of these automotive giants.
16:18 [Music]
16:20 I am inside a ship that carries vehicles,
16:26 and not just one, not just two, not just a hundred, but in fact thousands of vehicles.
16:31 If you look at this ship, there are a lot of cars parked.
16:36 I am going to show you down.
16:38 And with us is Mr. Milind, who is the supervisor of the Roro unit.
16:42 Mr. Milind, where are we standing right now? Can you tell us?
16:46 We are standing in the third hold of deck number 8.
16:50 And this vessel is of total 12 decks, of which we are standing in the third hold of deck number 8.
16:58 Guys, total 12 decks, which simply means total 12 destinations.
17:03 We are at level 8 right now. We are going to go down one level.
17:07 And if you look around me, all these vehicles are exported from India?
17:12 Yes.
17:13 Where are these vehicles going from here?
17:15 They are going to South Africa.
17:17 And I see all these vehicles are Maruti's different models.
17:20 These are Maruti and Toyota vehicles.
17:22 If you look around, how precisely these vehicles have been parked.
17:29 It seems that not a single place has been wasted.
17:33 Mr. Milind, is there any fixed measurement of how many gaps will you make in the vehicle?
17:39 Yes, there is a gap of 30 cm from bumper to bumper, and a gap of 10 cm from mirror to mirror.
17:46 10 cm?
17:47 10 cm from mirror to mirror, and 30 cm from bumper to bumper.
17:51 If we can see from the side, you can tell us from here, if I try to go there.
17:57 Okay, it seems to be less than 10 cm.
18:04 Is there any special training for this?
18:09 Is there a person inside to help the driver so that they can park the vehicle in a systematic manner?
18:15 No, sir, we have a proper signalman in the driver, who sits in the vehicle.
18:22 The one who parks inside, which we call a parker, guides the parker and parks the vehicle in this way.
18:30 So, we train them properly and put them in this special operation.
18:35 Mr. Milind, if I ask you, how many vehicles can come in this whole vessel at a time?
18:41 Today, we have to load 3500 vehicles in this vessel.
18:46 Friends, as you can see behind me, operations in Mundraport are really on a massive scale.
18:57 To tell us more about the kind of tech that is used in operations, or talking about safety,
19:03 I have with me the CEO of Mundraport, Sujal Shah sir.
19:07 And sir is here to tell us what technologies are used and how the entire setup is running.
19:14 Making sure that all the waste that you see behind me,
19:18 the ships that come in, the loading and unloading is done in the most accurate way,
19:25 while saving as much time as possible.
19:28 Sir, what is the secret?
19:30 Because you are the CEO, if I ask you, how big is the role of tech in operating such a boat?
19:37 It is a very big role.
19:39 So, both safety and technology are in each other's hands.
19:44 So, the biggest thing is that we remove as much as we can from technology.
19:51 So, we would prefer to have a manless operation as much as possible.
19:55 So, if you see behind me, there is a huge machine,
19:59 in this machine, only one or sometimes two trainee operators operate together.
20:05 This machine is connected to the entire fibre optic in our backbone system.
20:10 The machine knows from which place to pick up the container from the vessel,
20:17 and which container to keep back at which place.
20:21 Every container has a unique ID.
20:24 The machine reads that ID and accordingly puts it in the truck.
20:29 The truck goes to the yard, and the place where it is to be kept is already pre-decided.
20:36 At that place, in the coordinates of X, Y and Z, the container is kept at that place.
20:42 And then it is checked back, that which place has been kept.
20:46 So that in the future, when the need arises for that container,
20:50 the system tells which container is kept at which place for what reason.
20:56 So, when it is the turn of that container, either for re-export or for delivery on land,
21:03 that container is ordered from that place.
21:07 The second machine is the same intelligent machine.
21:11 In that machine, there is a small tablet in front of the operator,
21:16 which shows which container to pick up from where.
21:20 And that is placed on a truck, which is pre-decided,
21:25 and the container is placed at its destination.
21:30 It's like a video game.
21:32 It's exactly like a video game, but it's a 100% tech-enabled video game,
21:37 wherein the maximum of technology is used in identifying, locating, relocating,
21:43 and then assigning the container.
21:46 As you know, in import-export, there are many things,
21:51 in which we have permissions, paperwork, customs rules, payment rules,
21:58 all these things seamlessly, seamlessly, all that thing is going on in the background.
22:06 And this is a touchless process,
22:10 wherein once the order is placed, the truck, the movement of the truck is completely automated.
22:18 So, I mean, sir, for example, it also depends on the kind of stuff that is inside the container.
22:24 Is it a perishable item or do you have to supply power because it's a refrigerated container,
22:30 or is it someone's priority in delivery? I mean, everything is taken care of.
22:35 Yes. So, there are a couple of types of cargoes.
22:38 As you said, there is a perishable item, which has medicines, seafood,
22:43 or temperature-sensitive food items.
22:46 So, it's called a refer container, which is refrigerated.
22:49 So, when it's on the ground, in storage, it's powered.
22:54 When it's in the ship, in sailing, it's powered.
22:57 So, it always keeps the cargo in the range of a certain temperature.
23:01 Similarly, there are cargoes of projects, which are over-dimensioned cargoes.
23:06 There are some cargoes, which are in 20ft containers, some are in 40ft containers.
23:12 So, what's inside and what is its sensitivity,
23:16 the sender and the receiver decides.
23:20 And the specifications that are mentioned, we strictly get guided by that.
23:25 So, I think technology is definitely playing an important role in ensuring the safety here.
23:29 Least man intervention and following the procedures just to make sure that nothing goes wrong.
23:35 Absolutely. Even these machines are built with some added safety,
23:39 where we don't see, but the machine will see you.
23:42 If you go closer to the machine, the gentleman sitting on the operator cabin may not be able to see you,
23:48 but the machine will see you, that there is a human somewhere and it will stop before.
23:52 That's, I mean, definitely lots of tech going behind the scenes, making sure that operations are seamless.
24:04 The benefits of the presence of Mundra Port,
24:06 they have spilled outside of its official boundaries in the form of the Mundra Port SEZ Zone.
24:11 This special economic zone, which is spread over 45,000 hectares, is the largest in India.
24:16 It gives special allowances for tax exemption, custom duty exemption, 100% FDI allowance
24:21 and many other regulatory rules and compliances.
24:26 Because of these, Mundra has attracted many large industries,
24:30 such as power plants, steel mills, cement factories, petrochemical plants, automobile manufacturing units
24:36 and surprisingly, even IT and ITES companies.
24:40 Because of this zone, not only has the public and social infrastructure improved,
24:45 but also boosted economic growth is clearly visible.
24:49 Mundra SEZ's development has brought a significant transformation in the surrounding communities
24:54 and the Adani Foundation has helped bring modern education to the current generation of kids living in Mundra.
25:00 We are all lost in the awe of technology going all around this Mundra Port.
25:09 Behind you can see the MSC Greenwich.
25:12 And with a complete pattern, the movement of containers is going on.
25:17 Trucks are standing in a line down there. The loading is being done.
25:21 But just think about how impactful this entire setup is.
25:27 What I am told is, Mundra Port directly or indirectly touches upon lives of 25,000 people.
25:35 If you look here, look at all these trucks.
25:38 Some are from Gujarat, some from Rajasthan, some from Delhi, some from Haryana.
25:42 Where all will the goods go?
25:45 Look at all these people driving these trucks, all these people operating the cranes.
25:50 I mean, on one hand, we talk about how big the ship is.
25:55 When you stand in front of it, you feel how big it is.
25:58 Then you look at the people who are completely in control of this entire port.
26:03 Those people who operate it, those people who work here 24x7, because it never stops.
26:10 It clearly shows the way India is progressing.
26:14 It clearly shows the way India is moving ahead with full speed.
26:18 Because this port is definitely the biggest in India.
26:22 At the same time, it goes head on head with the world's best available.
26:27 The turnaround time, the operating efficiency, everything is almost matching the levels of the global best standards.
26:35 It clearly shows that at a time when there was nothing, how quickly everything has been transformed.
26:43 All thanks to the power of people.
26:47 In Mundra village and its surrounding areas, the Adani Foundation runs various initiatives.
26:51 Bringing modern, necessary and even basic facilities to an area which has not seen these facilities even a generation before the current generation.
27:02 Facilities like modern hospitals, which ensure that people of Mundra don't need to travel miles towards sunrise for advanced healthcare.
27:09 Facilities like schools, where children are being given quality education in a quality facility.
27:15 This knowledge transfer is not just for the children going to school.
27:19 The foundation has held special training classes with farmers in the area to help them get off chemical based farming.
27:25 Get better yields and get better awareness about sustainable farming methods.
27:30 Communities like fishermen, the foundation has also helped them by providing them with pukka houses.
27:35 For the first time, we had a workshop with the Adani Foundation.
27:39 We had a discussion and the biggest officers came here.
27:45 They saw that this is a different method.
27:49 How can we improve it?
27:52 I saw it practically, how can we improve it?
27:58 For that, we held a special seminar.
28:01 The scientists who are still working with them, who are experienced and are already involved in natural farming,
28:07 came here and we planned for 4-5 hours.
28:11 And according to the planning, we gave each issue.
28:14 How much water we used to give earlier, how much water we can reduce.
28:18 Because today the biggest problem is water.
28:20 We still have the data of 5500 TDS water at 200 feet.
28:25 But there are other places where there is 4500-6000 TDS water that was not available.
28:30 If we spend this in the future, then it will not be available in the future.
28:34 When we came here, there was no road to walk.
28:42 There was no school to study.
28:47 When we had any disease or we had to go urgently, there was no hospital to take care of us.
28:56 Before this, there was nothing, but slowly technology started, roads are being built in the village.
29:04 And to move forward, we are building a school nearby.
29:10 So that we can study and come and study.
29:13 Slowly, when we came here, it was a forest.

29:31 And as we came forward, I have been growing up since I was small.

30:05 Because the arrival and departure of all these goods in our country is very very important.
30:11 And I am sure you all enjoyed this special report about Mundra Port.
