Romualdez on Sara Duterte's take on confidential funds

Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez reacts to Vice President Sara Duterte's comments regarding confidential funds in a press conference at the Manila Golf Club in Makati City on Thursday night, Oct. 5, 2023. 00:00 With respect to the confidential funds, we are all for the confidential funds and we are all for peace and security.
00:10 We are all for that. We are in total agreement that the realization of confidential financial funds is to promote peace and security.
00:21 And that's why we were in Bagaso today and looking at other ways how to make sure that peace and security of the country as a whole is protected.
00:34 And so we know that the West Philippine Sea has become a very, very top issue of the day. Incidents and incursions into our area, incidents with unofficial vote.
00:51 And we would like to make sure that the confidential and intelligence funds are most properly utilized by agencies and departments that are best suited,
01:05 particularly in these aspects of deploying proper resources and personnel for promotion of peace and security.
01:17 So we feel that we have to look at the West Philippine Sea. We have to provide more resources in these areas through the proper agencies and departments as we have already mentioned.
01:31 So yes, we are one. We are one with the Vice President in having and to make sure that confidential and intelligence funds are always part of the equation.
01:44 And of course best left with the agencies and the departments that are most and best suited.
01:53 And this is a matter of prioritizing, a matter of prioritizing and making sure that despite the confidential and the fact that the political funds nature, the transparency and the best and most appropriate manner in which it is deployed and utilized must also be observed.
02:16 And that is why we are undergoing this whole process. And that's why because of the recent incidents, we are also making sure that CIF is properly deployed for the West Philippine issues.
