00:05 Next week's Joe Rider. So from the 9th to the 13th of October we're asking members of the community

00:11 to be more conscious of motorcycles on the road network. Look out for your blind spots,

00:16 use your normal good driving techniques and be aware. What we hear quite often as motorcyclists

00:22 is that, you know, "Sorry I didn't see you mate." It's a phrase I commonly hear.

00:28 Probably not good enough. If everyone uses their looks in their blind spots,

00:32 be more conscious of people, bikes on the road. It'll be a nice safe environment for everybody.

00:36 So between the 9th and the 13th of October we're asking members of the community to look out for

00:41 Joe Rider. So if you see one of those, jump onto council's website, fill out a form and we're

00:47 giving daily prizes of $50, shop mid-coast vouchers and a grand prize of $250. You can pull over

00:54 safety whilst you're driving or do it when you get home. So good luck. Okay my name's Chris,

01:05 of October we try to promote road safety. We encourage riders to wear all the gear all the

01:11 time and we also encourage other drivers to keep look out for motorcyclists. Check the blind spots,

01:16 travel a safe distance from motorcyclists. David Coyle from Manigret Lakes Police.

01:22 We're here today to talk about driver awareness and particularly motorbikes.

01:26 There's a great program going at the moment called Joe Rider where we're really attempting to

01:31 educate motorbike riders and the general public in driving that the importance to look out for

01:36 motorbike riders. Motorbike riders themselves have a role to play. They have to be prepared

01:41 each day that they take out and be focused about what they're doing and it's simple things like

01:45 be aware and never assume what someone else is going to do. Always wear motorbike helmets,

01:51 wear high-vis, be seen. Be seen is the important part and ride to survive. So the Joe Rider campaign

01:57 began in ACT some 14 years ago. It's our fourth program up here in Maningret Lakes.

02:02 It's a campaign where we're really trying to educate riders to stay alive.
