How is Europe faring in the fight against plastic pollution?

Ocean talks with Virginijus Sinkevičius, the European Commissioner for the Environment, Oceans and Fisheries about single-use plastics, changing individual behaviours, and the importance of businesses being on board.

00:00 I think we all share responsibility for the city that we all love living in and

00:12 We're all responsible for the planet that we live so I think first of all it

00:17 all starts of course from our behavior as an individual but also from the

00:23 policies and business initiatives. I think we are all in this game together

00:27 and we can top up and and if we you know have this kind of willingness to truly

00:34 you know get rid of unnecessary packaging, collect it better, recycle it

00:39 better, reuse more, we should do with good policies with people willingness to

00:45 to act and of course businesses being on board. We see improvement but we also see

00:52 that plastic packaging is increasing so we see that member states did relatively

00:57 good job with with recycling but it's not enough. We need a better

01:01 implementation of the ban on single-use plastics and some member states and also

01:06 use C for additional single-use packaging which is also absolutely

01:12 useless for people to get rid of it and then you know we would enjoy more

01:18 kayaking than picking up trash at the end of the day.
