Glasgow headlines 2 October: 20,000 athletes take to the streets of Glasgow for the Great Scottish Run
  • 7 months ago
Thousands of people took to the streets of Glasgow to participate in the annual Great Scottish Run on Sunday 1 October.

Over 20,000 runners joined the starting line at George Square for the 10km and half marathon which saw them take on the steep incline on St Vincent Street and pass key landmarks including the Hydro and The Finnieston Cran.

Money raised went to a number of charities including Glasgow Children’s Hospital charity and Blood Cancer UK.

Next up, the council has banned alcohol from all schools, including wine bottles at fundraising tombolas.

Alcohol was previously allowed on school premises as long as the licence holder adhered to a criteria of responsibilities.

The authority has written to parents to inform them of the new rules.

And in other news, Michael Beale has been sacked as Rangers’ manager following the team’s recent home defeat by Aberdeen.

The game represents their third loss of the season, and the club has said results had “fallen short of what everyone connected to Rangers would expect”.
